Well, it getting to be that time of year again, so it's time to start a new log.
Some people may remember my log from last year. I ended up placing 3rd in the '09 southern's in the open men's lightweight class. That bought me a by for this year's provincials on June 26/2010. If I do well, I will go on to the Nationals in Saskatchewan on Aug 14/2010.

Anyway,

Current weight 185 (made it to 200 briefly at christmas)

My diet and will be simial to last year, but I will not be using a trainer this year as I couldn't find one. (if anyone has some suggestion, I'm open)

I will add some pics to this post in a few days.

Signed up with Praetorian last night. I'm looking forward to getting started. Looks like I'll be posting up some current pics soon. I can't believe I let myself go back to here I statred the first time. I still have good size (for my height), just fatter than I wanted to let myself get. Oh well, I guess I had to get fatter to reach the 200lb goal I set for myself by Christmas...which I did achieve.

I dont think i am going to. I didnt bulk or anything this year. Just kinda cruised. Also I am not cranking it anymore so i dont think i would be able to compete with those boys who were on.
I know for a fact though that i am going to kick my self in the ass when i see everyone in the gym start to lean up for southerns..

Cool, maybe next year then.

So, I'm 5 days into my Keto Diet and I weight myself this morning and the scale says 173. That puts me down 12 lbs in just over 5 days. I was concerned about that, but Praetorian says it's normal and is mostly water weight. Just messes with y head a little. I think I'll stop hitting the scale until every sat morn like I'm suposed to.

Date: March 29

Current weight: 172

Figured I better update this thread.

First off, I am no longer on the Keto diet. I couldn't do it. I was working 14 hr days out of town and felt like I had zero energy. I had to go back to doing the diet I did last year. I will just have to tweak it a bit to get better results this year.

I was nerveous to tell Praetorian that I wasn't able to do his diet because I didn't want to be lleft on my own. He is a stand up guy and has offer to give me advice throughout the next 12 weeks. Understandably, HE TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY RESULTS OR PLACING as it is not his diet and it would look bad for his business if I place poorly. I just really appreciate him being there for me.

Anyways, I have been struggling thus far to make things happen because I was working out of town and there was no fridge in our room. Buffet was the only food availible to me for 6 days (besides my protein shakes). I did my best and selected the food that best suited my diet. I was able to get most of my cardio in, but not all of it. Looks like there will be no out of town work for a while so I should be able to keep things on track from here on out.

So...to the pics. I'm not pleased with how my upper body is coming in thus far, but after looking back at my notes from last year, I seem to be at the the same place on this date as I was last year...I even have the same doublful feelings! I guess it will get better.

One last note, because I am a sucker for punishment, I have decided to compete in a powlifting meet On May 26th (one month before the Provincials). The plan is to be in the 164lb class and Squat 600, Bench 350 and deadlift 530 for total of 1480.

Updates?

flapjack
03-05-2010, 10:03 PM
Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been fighting the diet since I started then 2 weeks ago I had a very bad weekend. I pigged out and was ready to give up. Then when the dust settled and I had my sanity back I decided to push forward. I have been very good with the diet (except for 2 weeks ago) and felt that I wasn't making any progress. I even stopped sending my pics to preatorian out of embarrassment. I have lost 23 pounds to date and am currently sitting at 165.8. (my goal is 154)

After looking at my pics from this weekend, I feel a little better. I think I'm being too judgemental of myself (I've been told you are your own worst critic). I have sent to pics off to Preatoian and will continue to push forward from here. I have roughly 8 weeks left and this weekend was the last of my cheat meals.

Opinions are welcome, but please be brutally honest.

Thanks,
Flappy

Currently sitting at 162.2. 2.5 weeks until the powerlifting meet, and 6.5 weeks until the bodybuilding show. Squatted 500 for a double and 550 for a single on the weekend. Beched 345 for a single paused.

159.8 this morning. I'm 5 lbs lighter than I was at this time last year. I think that's a good sign. Hopefully I won't have to sit in the van wrapped in garbage bags with the heat on this year to make my weight class.

So, 5 weeks to go until the provincials. Powerlifting meet in less than a week away.

The real question: does the 5lbs = 5lbs leaner or just 5lbs lighter?

Should be most of the morn. It starts at 9 am. Squat flight, then bench then deadlifts. Should be done around noon. Hope to see you there!

Well, the powerlifting meet went very well. Made it through the day with no injuries. Here are the results.

Weight at weigh in's 160lbs

Squat:

1st attempt - 500 - good
2nd attempt - 550 - good
3rd attempt - 600.5 - good

Bench Press:

1st attempt - 300 - good
2nd attempt - 330 - good
3rd attempt - 347.5 - good

Deadlift:

1st attempt - 440 - good
2nd attempt - 500 - failed (locked out, but set it down too soon)
3rd attempt - 514.5 - failed (locked out, but set it down too soon)

Total: 1388 (would have been 1462.5)

Kinda dissapointed that i blew my total, but I know in my heart that i got my deadlifts, so the fail doesn't really bother me. For some reason (could be the fact that we were deadlifting at 9 at night and I was there since 9am - long day) I just couldln't hold it at the top for the pause. felt like I was losing my balance. Anyway, all in all it was a great day. Lifted more than I ever have in my llife and all that after losing 30lbs! I'll post up pics as soon as I have them.

Hey Dan, we showed up in the morning.. could only stay for a couple of hours . We asked when you would be going on and were told well after lunch.. had other things I needed to take care of.. really disapointed we didn't get to see you.

Pics are a must!!!!

On another note, this was the first time we ever attended a powerlifting meet and it was cool!!!. Couldn't beleive the lifts!!!!!!

Would definately go again.

Congrats on your incredible lifts!!

I was able to se you lift ( I was helping load the bar ) you did amazing !I can only imagine how strong you would be if you weren't in prep for a bb show. I would have had you on video too , but my iPhone died midway through the day wich really pissed me off because I missed some good stuff.

I was able to get some video of a couple guys that I will post.

Once again , great job.

I think you looked really good. Very impressed with the strength you have / kept during the prep - especially squats! Are you more focused on bodybuilding, or powerlifting? If bodybuilding, a tad leaner and you'd do really well in my mind.

Hey Steve, thanks for the compliments. I had a hard time with the diet. I think if I could do it in less time it would be easier, but 17 weeks is a long time to stay focused. Maybe I'm just not disiplined enough to take it the distance... My heart wasn't in it from the start this time which made it harder too. Alot of life changes along the way didn't help. I think at this point I'll take a year or two away from BB'ing and focus on the PL'ing. Maybe put on some size. PL'ing comes more naturally to me as I have strong legs. I will do bb'ing again, but certainly not next year.
