Is there such a thing as taking too much protein? Can too much protein be a cause or lead to diabetes? Or is too much protein a sign of having diabetes? I only ask because my sister-in-law was recently told by her doctor that her protein levels were way too high and they were concerned about diabetes. She's going back in a little while for another visit.

I have never ever heard of protein causing diabetes, but then again,im not a doctor.Ive heard that it could cause kidney issues, thats about it.Maybe you should ask Prae about this..
creatinine level into urine, or protein into urine might be a cause of kidney or liver issues. Correlation with actual protein consumption is low. But again I am not a doctor, its what i read on internet.

Protein in urine is a sign of kidney damage but this has nothing at all to do with consumption of protein. If you are healthy and hydrated it is hard to imagine a level of protein too high. The inuit ate a diet of fat and protein quite happily and healthily for many years. When there were still a gazillion plains bison on the praires the native population ate pretty much nothing else.

Thanks guys. When the doctor mentioned "diabetes" she became quite concerned. She could be leaving out other details. But the only details she spoke about were the high protein levels and that they were concerned with diabetes.

I just googled and the is something called a c-reactive protein (CRP) that is related to type-2 diabetes this is likely what she is talking about.

And to go on what Tiramisu mentioned on the protein and kidneys, a sign is when your piss is foamy. I've had it before and your piss foams up its weird, but it is a signal to start drinking some cranberry not from concentrate juice and take some good supps.

What about urinating a lot? She went with my wife to a outing on Sat night, and apparently my SIL went to the washroom almost a dozen times throughout the evening, and she wasn't even drinking that much fluid.

Time to talk to the doctor. There's something wrong and bro' diagnosis isn't the answer.

The frequent going to the washroom thing without having to pee is the sign of a coke user. Seriously, any signs of that?

Mine is lately but I'm on a ketogenic diet from hell so while I'm not pissing protein I am pissing ketones so not only does it foam but it stinks too.
In your case however I'm sure you have a series of incurable tumors.
Carry on.
