cool! First you will need to understand what you will need to do to get to your goal and then see if your willing to do what it takes. Then you should figured out in what weight classe you wanna compet in.once this is done you will need to put together a master plan, look at how much time you have until the show and go from there diete, bulking ,cutting, cycle, posing, routine
that is if you wanna win:D
or you could just diete down to the show, no routine and not be competative ,but what the point then!

Post a pic of yourself, we'll let you know if you got the goods to compete, J/K.
I'm in the same position as you, been weightlifting for the past 12 years, on and off but never really watched my diet or my progression. Now the big 3-0 hit me and I got the "arnold disease", time to bulk up and size up as well. GL to you.

bodybuilding has zip to do with huge weights.
no need to put yo0ur body thru hell to accomplish a goal of winning a local show, hell even a pro show. Bodybuilding isnt about how much u can lift as injurioes get u know where in this sport. You can still easily build muscle without having to re-sort to super heavy weights that seem to stress the joints more then the muscle.
as for what show,m depends where u live. go to the website that matches your province
for a all the provincial websites go here and finds yours. cbbf.ca/members.shtml
after that, the masses here will be more then happy to answer any other question u may have

Bodybuilding has a lot to do with huge weights, because unless you can lift big you aren't going to be big, therefore you aint going to be a bodybuilder.

Not at all.
Bodybuilding is about effort and intensity, not the weight lifted.
One friend of mine's working sets on leg presses are in the 1200lbs for 6-8 reps range, I have not tried for a PR on the lift since I grew out of ego lifting and I rarely do more than around 650lbs for sets of 12-15. Guess who's legs are better? Mine.
Another buddy of mine hits around 400lbs on the bench. I don't benchpress anymore[other than as part of my warm-up occaisionally]. Our chest development is virtually the same. He also does weighted chins. I do lat pulldowns. My back is a LOT better than his.
Heavy weights are about CNS training as much as muscle training. Not at all necessary for BB.

To the question:
Goto your provincial federation and pay to join it.
Read it's rules.
Pick your contest, pay the entry fee.
Read the rules associated with THAT contest as they differ based on the venue and the promoter.
1/2 way thru your diet, pick out your trunks.

your all right, lol get yourself someone you can trust to assess your physique.hopefully someone who has competed b4 or trained people b4.if you know as little as you say you do you might be best to hire a reputable trainer.theres guys on this board that can help but your gonna get conflicticting info as you can already see. so you need to pick 1 mentor to help and avoid confusion.check credentials .most people need 12 to 16 weeks or more of strict dieting so pick a show that gives you at least that amount of time. there i so much to it. so plan ahead.

diagree partly. AAS isnt necessary to be a great bodybuilder.
also disagree with steveman, on lifting heavy weights is what one needs to do to be a bber. since when do u get on stage and ask the other competitors how much they bench, curl or leg press?
heavy low rep weight doesnt need to be done in bbing to be a bber. its more ego then anything, unless u are into powerlifting of course.

AAS isnt necessary! yeah if you do not want to win but if you wanna come out number one you got no choice:)
Re: the heavy lifting - it depends on the person. I only saw big changes in my physique once I started PL. Many women say the same. Then again, the person who started this thread is a dude...so I digress....
And I personally don't need any AAS - I can just inhale deeply and get all the testosterone I've ever needed and wanted with all the men around here :p

disagree again. there are countless people that use steroids, and not everyone can win a show. hell if thats all it took everyone would be a pro.
it comes down to what you want from the sport i think. If u want to see how far u can go in the CBBF and maybe the Pros, then ues steroids are a must.
but if u wish to do this sport as a hobby and see what u can do on your own, then one can easily say no to steroids. Yes u may get your clock cleaned, but if it isnt a issue for u, then who cares.
just be the best you can be.
as for low reps and damaging your joints and putting on muscle, its not for everyone. yes u can put on size, but at what cost?

then you daid

sorry but to be a great bodybuilder you need AAS, how did the 10 mr.olympia won their title!
Sure if your in it for the fun of it you dont need those 3 main thing but if your goal is to be competative and have a chance to win then you got no choice you need these 3 thing:)

I agree to a point, but do you think Ronnie Coleman got as big as he is lifting 10 pound dumbells LOL or bench pressing 100 pounds.
Thanks for the website bro....

Ronnie Coleman could push a lawnmower around all day and be bigger than 99% of people. Get your diet in check before you decide to compete. It will make things a whole lot easier. You would also probably have to change your style of lifting because w/ decreased bf% your body doesn't stand up as well to maximal lifting.
I disagree with you Mr. Freeze. Steroids arn't necessary to make someone a great bodybuilder. Sandow never took them because they didn't exist and I consider him a great bodybuilder. There are also natural bodybuilding competitions. No less impressive...just a longer (and I think a harder) process.
With hypertrophy it isn't about numbers. To some extent it has to be because a given volume of muscle can exert a certain amount of force so people with bigger muscles can (in general) lift more weight. What everyone has to remember is an increase in muscle size is triggered by damage not necessarily by the amount of weight.
