Has anyone ever had a knot in their muscle? I took a 2 month lay off from the gym and just recently came back. Worked chest and did not go really heavy (or so I thought). Pecs were reasonably sore for a few days, but now a week later there's a fairly big knot in my left upper pec. When I pull my left arm back it feels as if the muscle is still holding lactic acid, still feels sore. When I feel the part that is sore it feels like a hard knot in that area. Right pec is fine. Did I just work the muscle out too hard after the layoff? Kind of concerned that it's not getting better and its been a week. I am due to train chest again tomorrow and don't know if I should. Anyone ever have something like this ?

If you can feel a lump or a ball of muscle you've likely torn the pec. DON"T continue you normal program.

A pec tear is a bad thing don't **** with it.

1. Get it checked out. You probably don't need surgery if you are feeling dumb enough to lift but get it checked anyways.

2. Rest and ICE ICE ICE (5 days)

3. google for bill starr's rehab protocol and follow it.

This doesn't really feel like a tear guys. I had absolutely no pain or discomfort during my workout. To me it feels like an over strained muscle. I don't have any pain, just feels like lactic acid and the muscle is HARD. Massaging it helps a bit. I think I'll skip my chest workout today to be on the safe side

A buddy of mine is a massage therapist. What he told me is that if the "knot" feels like a ball it is infact a knot/strain. If doesn't feel round and more so of a line, it is scare tissue.

The lump is the muscle swelling up around a tear. At this point it's probably a minor tear. If he were to jump on the bench press and have at her then he could probably turn it into a major tear.

Dollars to donuts says it is not your pec at all. It is more likely an upper back/neck issue that manifests itself in the chest. I get this all the time and for years I thought it was my pec muscle. Not painful at all, just feels wrong. Once I started seeing a chiro who adjusted my neck and upper back the feeling would go away. Now I can pop it on my own. When I do flyes I get the feeling and it lasts until I adjust my neck again. You may not feel anything as far as pain in your neck/back but it may be out of alignment.

I've been stretching the muscle over the past few days. feels 80% better. going to train chest tonight but taking it easy. I've got a feeling I just overworked it after being out for so long
