I think this new law is a good one but it also need some revision that probably wont happen.
The law states that if you are caught driving 50km above the speedlimit you could be charged with speedracing. At the officers discretion.

A guy I know was on Hwy 7 travelling at 132km/h when he was snagged. He wasnt racing anyone just late for work. The police charged him with speedracing, took his license away until court and impounded his car in Ottawa for seven days.

Wow! what a kick to the nuts, this guy is a younger guy and prolly wont be behind the wheel again for years.

I would think many of use can get up to 130km/h on a county road or Hwy.

I think speedracers should be charged, possibly even more aggressively than that. But to charge someone and impound their car is insane.

Give me a $400-600 fine and be gone.

Fvck in the fall I was travelling about 100k and an undercover came right up within feet of my bumper. It was an older Impala(which I thought werent used anymore)so I didnt think it was a cop. I had my son with me so I satyed at the same speed. The prick remained right on my bumper and wouldnt pass. After a few minutes I got pissed and sped up, when I hit 120k, whoop whoop.
The cop pulled me over and fined me!
If that happened now I would've been close to speedracing.

Sounds like your freind got humped and should have invested in good lawyer maybe because that's outrageous. I wonder if cops still have quotas to meet or if they are trying to make examples. I'm sure just like everywhere else some are just heartless evil bastards and take their "Command Presence" traing too seriously and think they are all powerful.

they supposedly dont have quotas anymore. 50km over is a 10,000$ fine and/or impounding your car and your liscense. I think that is ridiculous in certain areas for example where the limit is 80km but people will always go at least 110 on it. harsh punishment indeed.

shithead... if he was riding your ass and you were goign the limit, you should've tapped your brakes. but i guess it's different if your boys' in the car. that story sounds ****ed up to me. almost like entrapment but not really

I was already doing 100k when he came up on me.
Even my gf, who is a saint, said it was bullshit.
I called him on it and he said,"So if any car comes riding up on ya, the solution is to speed up?"
He knew that I could probably fight it, so he let me off with driving with no license as I had forgot it.
Funny thing, he kept asking me over and over if I was from Quebec.

quebec drivers are nuts but it would only be normal if that ****er wa sriding your ass. so he gave you a ticket as driving without your license, and then you went into the courthouse the next day and showed them your license and got the ticket revoked?

No, after I repeatedly said I was from Ontario he asked me if I travel to Ottawa alot. I said that I didnt and he said, that I was lucky and he saved me a trip to the ottawa police station. So he kinda let me off on that ticket.
Even if I had of remembered my license, I wouldnt of fought it. I figured missing a day of work and travelling to downtown Ottawa would cost more than just paying the fine.

No win situation. wasnt a big fine but he definitely baited me.
