*his opponent was previously a pro heavyweight boxer, but that was his first MMA fight.
A 220 lb'er is a flyweight to that guy.

...i just hope they work on their defense of a huge guy running at them throwing low kicks with his hands at his sides.
jokes aside, i was always a fan of his for having such a great build in strongman. and if his fist does connect properly you're probably going to have brain damage, lol.
He didn't seem to have any respect for that guy whatsoever.Who knows what he weighed for that fight?
One of the comments said that his weight in was 277 pound=125.8 kg for this fight, najman was 221pounds=100.2 kg

Mariusz was a believe an amateur boxer in his youth and I've heard a black belt in kyokushin karate, tho I've also heard green. It's the same style that GSP has his black belt in. In his training videos you seem him skipping quite a bit and running around too.
I love seeing Brock and Bobby Lashley tear it up, but seeing top level strongman go and what they'll be able to accomplish is going to be pretty cool too.
Arild Haugen another top level strongman started boxing and looked really good I thought, crisp and fast... he's about Mariusz's size.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtTgqun0U7E
that's the link to his first fight.
The only problem is I don't see Mariusz competing for the UFC any time soon as I don't think it's out of the question that he's used Deca and that will take a year and a half to clear his system, if he used EQ, then seeing him in some bigger organizations might be a reality fairly soon.
All in all I think it's pretty cool, and these guys are making a statement about being big and being a fighter for us. I've always felt that everyone was all over muscular gym looking guys saying how they'd get killed in a fight etc etc... but now you've got some huge dudes going out and kicking ass... should shut up the skinny guys in tap out t-shirts a bit...

Hope he does well, I have always liked him.

I'm thinking easy submission. Why take the risk of standing with a monster?
He was so open for a flurry during that whole fight. Hands down running straight at him leg kicking? Aleks would Knock his head clean off if he fought him like that.
Personally I find big jacked guys way easyer to stand with than someone with a more athletic build. Sure they punch harder, but they never land anything clean. An athletic guy who punches non stop, gives you no time to think, and forces you into a pace that is too fast for you to handle is much more frusterating.
I think Mariusz best bet would be to GnP and hopefully avoid the submissions. The extra muscle bennifits the ground way more than standing.

I already said he would have a bigger advantage on the ground.
I spar guys all the time that have 30-40 pounds on me due to lifting weights. They are so easy. They stop moving their heads and drop their hands halfway through the rounds, and become punching bags because they have no cardio or muscle endurance. Most of these guys either try to lose the muscle (so they dont burn out so fast), or they switch to grappling after everyone has had their way with them in the ring lol.
Athletically there is a huge difference when it comes to striking between a guy who is naturally big, and a guys who put on 50+ pounds on top of his natural weight.

A man with a 40 pound advantage over you may make you feel good while sparring but in a fight he is going to hurt you. There is a reason why weight classes exist. In almost all cases the bigger and stronger opponent wins.

b) He hasn't done anything yet.
c) He's not just a strongman. He's an excellent overall athlete that won as many WSM competitions as he did more because of athleticism than brute strength. What most people refer to as a natural athlete.

LOL if the current 175 pound me, and the past 220 pound BBer me were to fight I would put the old me into the ER.
The reason why weight classes exist is because if every fighter could pump themselves up from their natural weight to heavy weight, and still be competitive they probably would.

I have fought in half a dozen combative sports over the years. The reason why weight classes exist is that the heavier guy will kick your ass despite having less skill. It's that simple. Little guys like to lie to themselves about it when they fight in points matches. Especially 175 pound guys. A 220 pounder green belt will club a 175 pound black belt in a full contact match in just about any martial art other than possibly jui-jitsu with restricted rules.

IF you have still yet to get the point I am talking about someone like aleks who is a guy who would probably be a much bigger heavyweight naturally vs. Marius a blown up heavyweight in a striking match.
I was also refering to (HARD SPARRING) boxing & MT with guys who would naturally be me size, but are holding 30-40 more pound than me because they blew themselves up with too much weightlifting. I am not talking about winning on point either its me using only my left hand halfway through the second round because they are exausted enough to let me do damage that I felt bad about. Like busting their mouth, or nose open because they have no gas to deffend themselves.
If we are talking about guys who are naturally 30-40 pounds bigger than me as their sitting weight yes. I would get raped easy.

Aleks outweighed Thompson by 1lb in that fight. In terms of size and strength no one will find anyone who compares with Pudz. He is over 300lbs with single digit bf%. While size and strength do mean something...against someone like Aleksander Emelianenko it becomes different. I had no idea he was 6' 5''. He will most likely destroy Mariusz. I was just trying to point out before that getting all hyped up about Pudz now is very premature. Although he is an exceptional athlete and if he continues to work at it he will probably develop into an excellent MMA fighter.

Mariusz isn't an elite fighter. There's a few guys at the top of their game that will be able to pick him apart. As long as he's only fighting second tier fighters Mariusz will essentially just maul them. He's not just strong, although he is obscenely strong, he also has stamina. What he doesn't have is skill and until he faces the first tier fighters that should make for some nice pay days.

What you aren't realizing here is just how incredibly strong Mariusz is. You as a 220lbs bodybuilder wasn't anything impressive strength wise, you are probably only 10% away from your max lifts right now. Now imagine instead of fighting yourself at 220 picture yourself fighting a guy who is as conditioned as you are but is more than double your strength.
Mariusz overhead presses more than most "strong" people squat.
Granted that doesn't automatically make him a good fighter, but it's not as if his muscle is for show, he is conditioned, he is incredibly explosive and he is exceptional at using his strength in any situation.
The argument isn't about Mariusz being bigger than somebody by a few pounds, we are talking about a guy who is two to three times stronger than most of his potential competitors. Again, this doesn't mean he is always going to win but I can guarantee that you have no personal experiences to compare Mariusz to.

I was not saying that his massive strength would not help him in (MMA). It deffinately would be a big bonus in the GnP, and wrestling aspects. I dont see his strength, and Plifting muscles giving him much more of an advantage in the standup. That is what I was trying to get across to hurly when he couldnt understand why aleks would throw punches with him.

haha, no i meant natural in athletic ability.
this thread is all over the place, a lot of posts are being misconstrued. i think some people are taking the criticism of pudz's fighting ability personally, as if it says big guys are a joke when it comes to fighting, which they are not - especially in the street.
everyone here is quick to mock a guy doing deads or squats with shitty form but if you mention pudz's fighting style looked funny it is for some reason taken as a slag against the muscle community and bigger guys in general.
pudz beat the tar out of that guy but he looked hilarious doing it. it's nothing to be ashamed of, he won and against a former pro boxer. bob sapp too, is a big thick guy that looks funny when he fights but he beat ernesto hoost twice. pudz can only get better and i can't wait to see him and aleks go at it.

The funny thing is that before the fight starts Aleks is just going to stand there with a blank stare on his face looking entirely uninterested. If I had money to bet I'd put it all down on Aleks in the first round.
It isn't the case of the small skilled fighter vs. the un-tested monster. I think Aleks has a larger frame than Mariusz and will have a reach advantage. If Mariusz tries rushing in the way he did in his first fight he will probably get KO'd in the first minute. Does Mariusz have any kind of wrestling or grappling experience?

well, it's simpler and effective but you are right, it is always better to have more tools. You dont always have a full round to set things up in the street, plus you may be facing more than one opponent and being on one foot because you just threw a kick might be bad.

“His boxing technique is bad. There a lot of holes in his game. His defense is weak, he didn’t have much time to learn. There are holes in every aspect of his boxing technique. Very true. Brock can win fights because his size and strength coupled with his top level wrestling allows him to totally control his opponents. Pudz should have been able to throw that guy around like a ragdoll but he doesn't seem to have much of a grappling background. When he got the guy down he didn't really do anything.
Pudz is a great athlete so we'll see how fast he can learn but right now he looks big and kinda awkward.

I don't think it was just last night. From what I saw Pudz doesn't know how to throw a punch.
sshhhhh.....don't slag Pudz around here......he is big and muscley, that means he doesn't need any skill.
