Is Hanny and Farah right in saying that too many bb'ers, rely on powers instead of whole foods when prepping for a contest? In Chris Aceto's Championship Bodybuilding (which I am using as my prep coach) say to substitute with powers to ensure you get all you bcaa's while dieting. I am now questioning myself. These guru's helped put Jay and Branch in 1st and 2nd so they know their nutrition. What are your views on this?

Well..many have their views.More than one way to skin a cat.But in my opinion, whole food is better. You get vitamins and minerals from food as well..not just the protein.Yes there are times where powders may serve a purpose.Bcaa's before and after a workout with glutamine are used quite frequently by bodybuilders to ensure muscle retention. But not everyone does, and they have success as well.I guess you would just have to try it yourself, and log your progress. As for me,i have "good" whey protein in the morning and after my workout,or if im in a pinch and dont have time to make a meal--thats it.

whole food above all else, but i dont have a problem with using shakes to replace 1-2 meals a day if your eating 6-8 meals a day.

Same, bizzy life. Shakes give me a quick boost when I am at work, too hard to eat all day long.
It's a quick 100cals and 30g of protien.

- shake, Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, shake(pre/post workout), supper, snack, shake before bed.-

Looks pretty standard^^^.
As I continue to diet and feel like i want to eat everything in sight i switch up any liquid meals for solid to help with hunger control.

I think 2-3 shakes a day (1 being PWO) compliment 4 solid food meals a day very nicely.

I swapped 2 cans of tuna for a shake today, got rid of that nasty mid morning stomach churning feeling before lunch. Today was also my low carb day so it was a major help. Same calories + more protein.

tuna - 60g pro, 0g carbs, 1g fat
shake - 54g pro, 2g carbs, 2g fat

I would try for whole foods as much as one can. Shakes will lead to a softer look if you rely on them for most of your protein intake. Eating 6 meals a day is plenty and no real need for more than that cutting or bulking, one of those is a post w/o shake for me.

whole food keeps the hunger pains away longer when dieting, with a shake im hungry about 10 mins after

Yeah me too, one shake feels more like a glass of water than 30g of protein. Sometimes I mix with small amount of milk. Just to get it to clump a bit and hold off the hunger.

i do 3 shakes a day but try for 2 most days, saves on money and i drink 10 litres of water per day so it keeps me occupied and not going after the vending machine at work.
