Anyone ever train this way ?

I've been listening to a few pod casts ( fit show , paleo solution ) and these guys talk about it quite a bit. Even Louie Simmons has spoken a bit about it ( all positive ) .

Seems like it could be a great way to burn off the cals while maintaining strength. There is even a cross fit games in different major cities ( Canada too).

Just wondering if there is any feed back on this here.

Everyone I have talked to that tried it said the DID NOT MAINTAIN STRENGTH. I think its great for getting really conditioned, lean etc etc but if your goal is strength and size look else where.

ps. One of the sources mentioned above OWN's a crosfit studio in BC. His background is mostly olympic weightlifting and after dedicating 6 months of his life to crossfit ALL his lifts dropped significantly... But he said he looked good at the beach.

I did crossfit in the past but was doing only deadlift every monday, and only squat on thursday. my squat and deads really improved quickly and it was really good for BJJ. I did loose some weight tho.

It will pretty much give you "Jack of all trades, master of none" type of results. You'll get SOME strength benefits, some cardiovascular benefits, some agility/speed/power benefits. But you won't maximize results in any area

... Makes women strong like men and men strong like women.

Just kidding it's not that bad and in many ways it is very good for GPP but most of us would lose strength on this kind of program. There are variants of the crossfit program that allow for sustaining strength unlike the main site programming.

I really like some of their ideas and may give it a try but that would be after I get to 250 @ 8% body fat. :)

It's basically just compounds , isint it ?

I could totally see a person getting stronger, leaner, faster . I don't see how it would benifit a powerlifter in any way other than GPP .

I do think my wife would like and do well at this , but I would suffer in the long run.

It is a timed set of semi random exercises. No it has no benefit for a powerlifter.

lol...I guess that's why it's not called "specific-fit"

I did crossfit for a winter and found it was amazing for my fighting, i like that everything is timed or for AMRAP so that you are always trying to beat yourself and set new pr's. While i went to crossfit i still snuck of to the gym to do some heavy lifting now and again. It would definetly not be a way to put on size but if you want to be more athletic it is the way to go. They are also good at coaching you on form and thats where i learnt how to olympic lift properly.

lol, exactly.

i did my 2nd crossfit workout today. i like it, it's not easy. there are people having nervous bathroom breaks before class and puking during the workout. it won't help you win a BB show or PL meet but i am suspecting it will keep you fit enough to deal with any practical physical test life throws at you.

the guy i am working with realizes different sports need specific training, he really wants to train with some MMA guys to see how the crossfit compliments their skills.
