View Full Version : Sleeping pills + clen safe?
I have just been prescribed several months worth of sleeping pills to combat my very obvious sleep issues. I have suffered from sleep apnea and insomnia for many years and hopefully these pills can help.
They are Apo-Amittriptyline and I am to take 3 pills before bed every night.
My question is that if I am using sleeping pills to fall asleep is it safe to use clen at the same time? What if any complications could occur from taking an "upper" and a sleep med concurrently?
I read about the drug and I know it has possible drug interactions with ephedrine based drugs but clen is not.

I`ve never had problems with clen while using stuff like gaba, 5hpt, st john`s wort, valerian root and nytol. Don`t know if that means you can use what you`ve been prescribed however.

Is it safe to use sleeping pills if you have sleep apnea? Since the whole reason you wake up is because you stop breathing, aren't you worried you won't be able to wake up and you might die in your sleep? That's what I'd be worried about.

Clen and ephedrine both effect the Beta 2 receptor. If you're concerned it's probably something you should talk to your doctor about. Clenbuterol is also used as an asthma medication because it acts as a bronchiodilator. My guess is that would help you with sleep apnea by allowing you to breath better although I really don't know a lot about the condition (so that's an uneducated guess).
Im not worried about not waking up when im not breathing, im more worried about continuing carrying on my school with zero sleep. the only time i can lay down and just fall asleep like a normal person is when im shitfaced and i pass out.
right now ive been in bed for well over an hour and i cant sleep at all so i woke up to check CBB. this is ****ing torture. these pills dont even ****ing work. ****.
Melatonine & force waking up at 7am for a year fixed my bad insomnia.. I was on zopiclon for year but now im free

i feel your pain. for years i suffered brutal insomnia and was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. i'd recommend getting the CPAP machine if you can pay for it with a health plan otherwise don't bother they're almost $2000. I don't really use mine (I should though) but others I know that have stuck with it says it changed their life within a few weeks.
i used to heavily medicate with alcohol too, however that makes the apnea FAR WORSE. you snore louder, and your breathing stops more because of the relaxed\depressed tissue around your throat\sinus\etc. also if you're drinking regularly that will completely **** up your sleep rythmns too. its very common to wake up in the middle of the night and not get back to sleep if you've been medicating with alcohol. ask me how i know ;)
p.s. i've tried all the sleeping pills too and most of them won't touch my insomnia. hypnotics like imovane just trance you out and leave you spacey the next morning, and sedatives\benzos like valium\xanax are a slippery slope and lead to bigger dangers than insomnia so they should NEVER be used other than emergency situations aka 'if i don't sleep i'm going to ****ing kill someone'.

Actually, OHIP covers the cost of the machine - and you get a new one every 5 years. Your health plan will cover things replacement masks, filters, water holders etc..
I've been using my CPAP for about 3 years or so, trust me, it will change your life/energy etc... There are times (very very seldom - and usually on weekend) where I fall asleep without the CPAP machine, and when I awake in the morning I can immediately tell that I did not use my machine. Just do not feel as good.

heh, i just put mine back into storage again too :(
And yes you're right about OHIP covering *most* of the expense (in my case at least). I got mine approx 6 years ago and there was still maybe $500-700 that I had to submit to health insurance...maybe thats changed. I'll have to ask about the coverage on the accessories. I doubt I get 100% coverage on them but its probably worthwhile for me to get a new mask and filters and commit to using the machine for a full week or 2. I've had good results with it in the past but every once in a while i hit a night or 2 where its just not letting me sleep and i say ****it and throw the mask at the wall convinced its resposible for keeping me awake an extra 2 hours.
now that you mention the 5 year renewal, I should probably look into what machines I can get now.

I wonder this too...not to many doctors will prescribe sleeping pills if you have sleep apnea. Did you tell him? or at least if you had a machine which would help.... or were you even diagnosed with it?

used sleeping pills immovane (rhovane, zopiclone) and seriquil and have had no issues with any gear interactions. I find of ECA or any stimulants the pills help you to get to sleep when you normally would be up all night tossing and turning...puts me to sleep when i choose so if i want to sleep at 8pm-10 the next day i can. Good for growth because i sleep deep and not so restless and up every hour. I found now that im sleeping the gains are more steady.

Try smoking a Joint about 1.5 hours before bed and take a melatonin 0.5 hours after that. If you cant pass out like that then you def need sleeping pills.

What sucks is that alot of times the whole thing becomes psychological on top of it being physiological. How many times have you went to bed late saying to yourself 'I have to sleep now or else ill be tired in the morning' and didnt get in any sleep at all?It happened to me Lots of times and i actually went to bed very tired.I think there comes a time where we repeat it so much in our head that just the thought of it keeps us awake.
If you have alot of trouble sleeping bro,i dont think clen would be a good idea..even with pills. It will cut the effects down for sure

^^^ thats what I was thinking... isnt clen counteractive to your ultimate goal which is to get more/better sleep?

I got my machine at VitalAire. The government sets the price of all units to something like $1500. Then the cover all but $350. So your machine will only cost you $350 - well worth it. And....if you have insurance you will get most of the $350 back. These machines are practically free - no excuse not to have one if you need it. Doing the sleep study is nothing...go and get hooked up.

Depending on the machine you get as well.... some are just the basic ...Not to forget the cost of a mask....what $300.00?

I wouldn't use clen if I had a sleep disorder. It's not dangerous in combination with amitriptyline but clen will keep you awake.
The best way to deal with sleep initiation disorder is:
1. cut out alcohol, caffeine and nicotine and all stimulants including ephedrine. Wean off (gradually reduce intake) if you're taking any of this stuff regularly over 1-2 weeks. Then stay off for 2 weeks. For many people, this is all they need to do. After that they can carefully re-introduce coffee and then a drink or 2.
2. go to sleep at exactly the same time and get up exactly the same time every day, including holidays and weekends. Sucks, but you need to program your brain and that's just the way it works.
3. don't do anything in bed except have sex or sleep. no watching TV etc. This programs your brain to stay alert when you are in bed and that's bad.
4. amitriptyline isn't really a sleep med-- it's an tricyclic anti-depressant that is often used for chronic sleep disorders. It works but most can't tolerate the sides (dry mouth, blurred vision, hard to pee, sexual sides etc.) at the effective dose which for you would probably be about 150-300 mg at night. Trazodone would be a better choice IMHO. It actually has a Viagra type effect unlike most other sleep meds which have the opposite tendency.
5. go to see a sleep specialist and arrange a formal overnight sleep study if above doesn't work. Sometimes medical disorders are the problem and this needs specific treatment. Note: waiting lists to see these docs can be long in Canada.
Look up "sleep hygiene" on the net and read about it.
Note: kava use can lead to dependence and a nasty withdrawal syndrome including seizures.
good luck...

Actually the Ontario government sets all the machines at the same price. I'll call Monday and get more details.

I already did a sleep study about a month ago, thats how i got the script for the sleep meds. I have to go back in another month or so to do a follow up. I will most likely end up getting the machine but the doc wasnt sure that i needed it despite my asking for it.
thanks for all the feedback.
