Anyone have any ideas on workouts for an ectomorph trying to build size with this crappy work schedule?? I do 12 hr shifts. the schedule looks something like this.
work - monday and tuesday
off - wed and thursday
work - friday, sat and sunday
off - monday and tuesday
work - wed and thursday
off - friday sat and sunday.
I am used to and building muscle working out monday through to saturday. For me it feels like soo much time between workouts.
Your diet determines gains. Try splitting your workout schedule. For example:
Mon: back, chest, abs
Wed: legs
Fri: shoulders, arms

what kind of work is it?
I edited my above post earlier but it didn't take. Anyway, if you're tired after work then go before, if you can't go before then you'll just have to do your best afterward. Consistency is very important for maximum growth and your work schedule certainly won't allow you to achieve that by only training on days off.

Make sure you train on your off days. When you begin the 3 in shifts in a day run, train on the first day of the 3. I doubt your training will be as effective on the other days. Not saying it can`t be done, just not as ideal.
you need a 24h gym and some caffeine.

My work is very physical and I am always moving so I don't have any energy to even try a workout on my work days.

LOL. I drink too much caffeine as it is. But my gym is a 24hr gym.

I worked very hard up to the last few months of 2009 and built up some good size. I was at the gym monday to saturday and was hitting each muscle group twice a week. I find for me that is the best way to build muscle. Now with this damn schedule I am watching all the hard work slowly go away.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I will deal with it as best as I can.

I say do an upper/lower split, and eat like you are on death row on the days you are working, no reason you shouldnt swell up like a bruised titty on this schedule. Focus on the big compound lifts and you will pack on da beef.

I agree.
