So my wife is fed up with my snoring. Its not everynight but after a long day, w/o in the gym etc. Once my head hits the pillow my snoring keeps her awake.

So I went out today and bought some nasal strips they apparently open up your nasal pasages and help you breathe easier. Do these work??

Any other suggestions appreciated.

My husband used them for awile. Helped a little...his snoring was the worst when he was "bulking"...barely makes a peep at night when he's lean.

OK that makes a little more sense because I am bulking right now about 15lbs heavier and my snoring has gotten much worse according to my wife.

Isn`t there a special pillow that`s supposed to help with that?

If the pillow is placed firmly over the face I am told it works best.

Interesting as I was going to create a similar post. Currently my wife sleeps with her Ipod. I just got tested at a sleep clinic and it turns out I have a mild form of sleep apnea. I will be going again to test out a CPAP machine.

I tried the strips and found limited benefits. Sleeping on my stomach as opposed to my side or back is helpful. Find out if you breath through your mouth or nose while sleeping. Mouth breathers are more likely to snore. There are head straps you can wear to keep your mouth closed during sleep to force you to breath through your nose.

Snoring is not as benign as some may think. It can be an indicator of breathing issues which can lead to low O2 in your blood. Low O2 can lead to various health issues. I suggest going to a sleep clinic to get checked out.

My grandma swears by this solution. My grandpa snores sooo loud. So before bed every night he downs 1tbsp of olive oil and apparently does not snore anymore. It is worth a try.

I didn't snore before I was married. I slept alone and was never woke by snoring once.

After I got married my wife woke me about my snoring regularily.

There is an obvious solution to the problem here somewhere. I just have to give it more thought.

... seriously though, I used to only snore when I had a cold or was drunk and slept on my back. Now I seem to snore on just about any occasion. I'd love to stop but I'm not aware of any silver bullets.

I think it can be directly correlated to body weight, whether lean or not.

I've got wicked sleep apnea. Strips, pillows, it's all BS. The only thing that works is a CPAP machine. They're expensive and some plans cover some or all of the cost. A decent one is 1200$.

Sleep apnea is way more detrimental to your health than just a snoring and spouse issue. Surgery from what I understand can work in a small percentage of cases....BUT if the surgery doesn't help then the CPAP won't work after either. In my opinion it wasn't worth the risk.

If you need to get a machine, spend the money and get a good one. It's definitely worth it over the cheap units. Try the nasal masks, they're smaller and lighter.

Sleeping on your face leaves so much to be desired.

I don't know about sleep apnea I generally wake up feeling well rested. I only snore according to my wife when I am sleeping on my back. If she gets me to turn over onto my side/stomach then the snoring stops.

On a side note the breathe right strips 2 nites and wife is giving them positive reviews. Time will tell if this is the solution. I might still have to look into this Cpap machine.

thanks for the advice Marino

CPAP machines in Ontario are "cheap". They run at about $1500ish and the OHIP covers most of the cost. You'll end up paying $350ish which can be covered by insurance is you have that option.

Which requires doctor to send you to sleep clinic and the wait times can be a good 2 months to get in and another month just to see the doctor and get the results...

My doctor referred me to an ENT guy for a deviated septum...that's what was causing my snoring and sleep apnea. Surgery fixed it and it was covered by OHIP.
