Had a semi-blind date tonight. Friend of a friend Ive talked to her on facebook or texts. But never met her. We met up for a drink. And **** it was like pulling nails to get her to talk. I assume shes just shy in person and hopefully she will loosen up. But in general first dates absolutely suck...

2nd date have her to your place and cook her dinner, then feed her a bottle of wine...works every time

I've had people tell me when I've done the first date thing that I am very easy to talk to and hang with so if I do encounter someone on a first date that I can't get to talk then I cut my losses and don't go out again or I'll be very honest with them.

I do need someone that I can carry on a conversation with. She need not be a rhodes scholar but some ability to handle some conversational topics other than the hot list of TMZ or Entertainment tonight is required.

Ahah thanks guys.

And Nate I cant agree with you more. Im going to give it one last shot and if its pulling teeth again trying to get her to loosen up. I think once she does open up it will be good, as she is going through university so she should have some kind of knowledge...

I usually get them into more "social" settings.. ie. instead of a coffee or a drink... will say "hey i need some new shirts, how about you just meet me at the mall and help me pick one out".... (i'm colourblind so i can throw that in too)... keeps it more fun.. get to see what they're really like.. not some "interview"... and if it goes good.. then go grab a drink.

I usually have no problems on first dates accept once.

Me..You did say you are active, I work out at the gym regularly. What do you do?
Him..I have no use for those people, been there-done that.

It's not the conversation thing I can't get past..it's silly things like he's to hairy or he is as round as I am tall. LOL

Good luck

i cant do first dates...theyre generally too painful.
i like to meet a girl first time in a group setting....usually a friend of a friend type thing

Same here. Makes it a lot less awkward, less pressure. The fact that you're only out to have fun with friends makes it a lot easier to create a bond with a girl you're interested in. Just easier to build comfort and rapport between the two of you compared to a date where it's just you in her and the main goal is to determine if you're boyfriend/girlfriend material.
