For switching it up once in awhile how do people feel about maxing out on the leg press at the bottom positon from a dead start to kind of simulate a deadlift or box squat deload at the bottom?

as long as it isn't "TOO" deep I am fine with it. If you can rest the sled on some pins or something that would be ideal.

id rather see you do some front box squats instead......or maybe barbell hack squats.....

A better idea would be to switch to unilateral leg pressing ie one leg at a time. Ed Coan used this technique very effectively...the idea being the overall synergistic effect is greater when done separately and added togther later....ie the sum of the parts (individual leg power added together) is greater than the whole. Start light and work up...its tougher than it looks. Ive gone as high as 5 plates per side with wraps....but it too me awhile...and I was squatting 600 for sets of 6-8 at the time. Make them deep and go slow to avoid injury.

With a deload at the bottom? I can set the pins so I deload at less than 45 degrees. This way i am close to the angle my legs would be in a deadlift position.

I guess I should come clean about this, Im looking for ways to give my back a rest; it has been iffie lately and i have been getting severe back pumps, but my last workout yesterday I did oly style squats and no problemos, maybe Im just being chickenshit.

You dont need to deload at the bottom just make sure you dont come down so far that your sacrum begins to lift of the back rest...sliding up slightly will help with this and alleviate the back issue.
