I just listened to the most recent superhumanradio
http://www.superhumanradio.com/mp3/player.htm

Discussing the value of eating meat raw. I'm not convinced but I'm curious.

Does anyone have useful links or information?

The argument seems to be that cooking meat denatures 3 or so of the aminos and several of the enzymes that would otherwise support digestion.

I'd consider it if my body was better equipped to fight off bacteria and parasites, however having had parasites twice from sushi, Id rather not risk it with meat.

Raw food diets on the other hand are a little more appealing, though it takes a lot of creativity to make meals that actually taste good and provide any decent protein.

There was a raw foods restaurant (vegan) in Toronto (either on Dupont or Davenport) that actually had very tasty food. I just can't imagine eating like that on a regular basis.

I indulge in steak tar tar occassionally... just make sure you go to a butcher that has experience cutting the right part of the sirloin. Spiced right it tastes really good. I have heard of people getting worms and parasites from eating too much raw meat so tread carefully

I enjoy a blue steak from time to time. But only if it is really nice meat.

If you`re gonna eat raw meat, I sure as hell wouldn`t do it with meat bought from the grocery store... I`ve heard that episode as well. The thought of it absolutley disgusts me and would never try it. Some aparantly are saying they feel better doing so. I can`t help but recall the part where he says he ate the raw chicken that was on the counter overnight! Gag at that shit...

Seems a little extreme to get a couple aminos and enzymes. I would not eat raw meat period. If you knew how most meat and chicken is processed you wouldn't either.

sushi is a million times riskier than red meat. Sear it, and you will kill almost any contamination which would predominantly be limited to the surface, transferred from meat shop equipment

Raw prawns straight out of the water are one of my favorite things. Pull their heads off before their eyes have even dimmed, oh man there is nothing better!

Watch the documentary Food Inc and then make your decision.

Food Inc. makes the idea of eating my chicken really tough. While I don't eat my meat raw I have tried to improve the quality of my purchases over the last few years.

http://www.movshare.net/video/fv31bb0buf7aj <= link to a streaming version of the documentary.

In season we have a couple of good farmer's markets here for fresh produce. In the winter I've found a grocer who is extremely fussy about produce. (probably costs 10 or so a week more than safeway but it tastes like food)

I can buy farm raised free range chickens and eggs locally for less than the factory stuff. (only problem is you have to buy whole chickens and I tend to live on breasts - the eggs are great)

I buy my bison from a rancher about 100 miles from here, he drives into town once a month or so and brings the cuts in in coolers. Grass fed not only tastes better but unsurprisingly is far better for you.

I haven't found a good farm for milk or beef yet. I'd love to find a dairy willing to supply me with milk. I had a friend with a dairy many years ago and raw milk is definitely god's food. That the milk marketing board / monopoly has screwed this up so badly is a terrible shame.

There are a couple of cooperatives in town that try to bring it together but they charge health food prices. Best by far is to contact the farmer directly and go out to the farm and see where the food is coming from.
Cheaper, tastes better, oh ya better for you.

In Ontario a good place for beef... you can purchase at local meat retailers of buy bulk online.

There are also a few coops for fee range chickens and eggs. St Lawrence Market is good and in the summer i drive to Kitchener to St Jacobs Market.
