Does this explain why I can use weight x and perform 9 reps then rest for 3 mins and perform 10 reps? I found this to be more pronounced in leg training, performing more reps (3-4) on the second set after resting. I typically feel stronger on my second set usually, though this does not make any sense. Perhaps because of a surge in hormones and other chemicals I am supercharged (so to speak) following the first set?

I think you`re not properly warmed up if that`s happening. Do you warm up doing multiple low rep sets? Or do you throw 135lb on the bar and rep out 20 reps then do your first work set?

On the second set I always get in a good 2 reps less if I worked hard enough and often rest 3 minutes between sets.

I typically do a 12/6/3 rep scheme with quick progression, with the weights at 50/60/70 percent sometimes 60/70/80, then rest about 3 mins and do my first set. I never go hard on my warmup, I just use them to get a feel for the weight and get my form set, I do not start my work set until I feel completely recovered. For some reason in this rep range of 7-10 reps and with legs 10-14, I am usually stronger on the second set. This has never occured when doing sets less than 6 reps.

This happens to me often. I will admit that I do not do a lot of warming up.

I see this all the time!

You're not squatting/leg pressing/whatever as deep as the first set lol

besides that wicked sick burn i would have to agree and say you're most likely not warmed up 100%.
