Well the new version of the software has been out since around Christmas. I'm running it on a handful of my other sites already.

I haven't installed it here yet as there are still a few glitches in it that need fixing. A new update will be available Thursday so if it fixes a lot of the glitches, I may upgrade this weekend. If not, I'll wait till the other update which is scheduled for the 21st. The good news is that the video embedding will be back as part of the software without any security issues. So we will be able to watch vids in a post again.

The bad news is it will change the total style of CBB. It will look bland until I tweak it to give it a unique style. So be patient on that part.

Lastly, the site will move from www.canadabodybuilding.com/forums/ to directly on www.canadabodybuilding.com
There will be no more /forums/ directory. I will set up a redirect to get you to the right place, but in case it fails for some reason and you don't see the site, go to the root www.canadabodybuilding.com and it should be fine.

Will make a post a few hours before the upgrade. So for now, expect it this weekend or the 21st if the software is not up to par. The upgrade may take between 3-5 hours. I will aim not to do it during peak times of course.

here's as good a spot as any.....

Props to you MP, you have turned this
forum into something great. It has gotten
continually better since its inception.
Hasnt gotten stale like most forums do.

I appreciate all the work you've put into it.

On hold still. They released 4.0.1 yesterday saying it fixed over 200 bugs and they are already working on the 4.0.2 version as of today they fixed over 100 bugs. That version will be released in a few weeks.
I'm not installing a new version that still has 100's of known bugs to be fixed. So I'll be waiting till the next release.

Im sure glad im not in ur shoes. Doing a significant upgrade (3.8 to 4.x) that affect so many users is NOT a fun thing lol. Hope everything goes smoothly and you dont run into TOO many problems.

Personal question here. You ever get the urge to just stop maintaining and enjoy the fruits of your labor?

I'm thinking sometime in the summer I can take a break from what I'm working on here and let the board run itself. Of course I will be around every day but not working on 50 different things to keep it growing.

The Canadian bodybuilder profiles is currently at the top of my list of things to work on as well as the upgrade and front page. Once that is complete it'll free up much of my time. CBB is currently like a full time job away from my job. But winter in Canada sucks so it's a good time to get the board up to par.

MP do you have the 'online' timeout set to default? It seems a bit high, nearly 24 hours. What i mean to ask is, a user is 'online' even if his 'last activity' is nearly a day ago. Makes for inaccurate 'online' status and 'whos online' figures.

Unfortunately too many sites jack that number up. Some sites don't log you out for weeks. I set it to a little over a day to try to keep up. I wish the software would lock it for everyone at a standard maybe 4-5 hours then log you out. I may be removing the Currently Online part in the future anyway as the site moves decent 24 hours a day and there always seems to be someone around to ask or answer questions. No need to really know who's online at the moment as someone will get to the question eventually. The default is 900 seconds and it's not possible to keep as it's too low. Most guys get logged out before being able to finish a big post. It was the first complaint I got way back in 2002 when I first started admining this software.

Ah ok, i always was under the assumption everyone who logs in checks the 'remember me', so regardless if u close the session or timeout, it remembers u.

Im guessing some pp dont do that so their session gets terminated? Or am i misunderstanding something?

Man the online manuals that vbulletin offers for non members is pretty bad.

Ya, not everyone is experienced with the software. A lot of new users don't even know about the checkbox. Don't break your head just yet with the manuals. The new software is coming and there is more to learn...lol

One of the nice things is the pic attachments. Drag and drop style. Until you want to create an attachment from a pic on the net or delete an attachment, then it all fails..lol

That's why I'm not installing it yet. Just too many little bugs. The end user would literally get so frustrated trying to figure out what's wrong. An end user usually blames themselves thinking they are doing something wrong instead of a thinking it's a glitch. So for now, we run as is :)

But I do miss the youtube vids directly on the site.

Ya, it came out a couple of days ago (the 4.0.2) version. No real feedback yet. They stated that in the next version 4.0.3, it will be possible to keep the same structure as we have here. The front page at the .com and the forums at /forums/

I'm going to wait for that so everything relatively stays the same of where we are used to going. But if it'll take them 3 months to do, I'll have to upgrade by then. I have too much stuff I'm waiting for planned on the upgrade.
