Im around 6'2, 170lbs. I workout 3-4 times a week. I currently go to university so consuming enough calories to gain mass is hard as there just isnt enough time in my schedule to cook as i live alone and have to study alot. I have been looking at some supplements to increase my calories. Can anyone suggest any supplements?? .... also i have been told not to waste my time with these "weight gainers" as if i were to take them i would just "shit them out" and there wouldnt really be a difference. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

thanks ahead of time

1. Food.
2. Whey/Casein protein powder + cup of oats + 1-2 tbsp udo's oil/handful of peanuts/almonds/etc = Meal replacement you can drink in 2 mins. If you don't have time for that, you should give up now. Because you have to study doesn't mean you can't make 15 chicken breasts and freeze them. I promise you, you're not the only one here with a busy schedule.

^^^ spot on! When you master that, you can add other stuff. But the shake outlined is better than any gainer you will buy.

It all depends on the person in regards to whether or not you are going to shit out the product or not since it seems like that is what you are worried about the most. In order to gain weight you have to be increasing your caloric intake, it is as simple as that.

The shake that was provided for you is great as it has all of your macronutrients in it that you need. When it comes to weight gainer shakes some people shit them out because of the increased amount of protein they are consuming. You should not be focused on this though. In order to gain apprx. a pound a week you are going to have to intake an extra 500calories per day. With the shake that was outlined above you are looking at a good 700 calories if you are adding in a few almonds or peanuts. That should do the trick for you.

When it comes to a busy schedule you have to decide how important bodybuilding is to you. It is a lifestyle not just a hobby! You have to make sacrifices or learn how to cook and store food properly for easy use. Hope this helps.

And I thought I was skinny at 6 foot 4 and 215lbs years ago.Wieght gain shakes work and you can add what ever suits your taste.Been there done that.Calories calories calories.
One thing you will learn as a natural trainer, body wieght gives you strength and energy to lift heavier and heavier wieghts, which in turn builds bigger and bigger muscles. You will gain a bit of fat around the waist as your wieght goes up,but you can just back off the total calories if you feel you are carrying too much bodyfat.
I think you will find though that consuming 3 to 5 thousand calories a day can become too much and you will have to take a break once in awhile for a week or so to get your appetite back.
Now what I have said above is for you if you want to get big and strong within a year or two, depending on your metabolism, without gear, but there is many other ways to get bigger over the longer term(many Years) if you do not want the extra bodyfat along the way.

The reason most people say weightgainers dont work is because they arent using them properly. you cant expect to just drink a shake and gain weight. You still need to be eating throughout the day as well and amke sure you are getting in adequate nutrition. Check out some of our sponsors for some great deals on various kinds of weight gainers. combine them with a diet full of foods like pasta and rice for carbs and carious meats for protein, throw in some veggies too for general health and fibre.

A surplus of calories = gain
A deficient in calories = loss

It's really that simple. Get about 1gram per lb of protein per bodyweight. Eat the rest in heathly, whole foods.

Not one supplement is going to give you the benefit of excess calories to gain mass. Supplements are exactly that - to supplement your diet.

I actually find sometimes when i stop taking all supplements i make some good gains, especially when bulking. Diet is key more so than anything, get your fast acting protein after your workout (whey, isolate) + simple carbs (banana, cup of blueberries, most non acidic fruit) for the rest of the day get a good portion of meat/fish/poultry + a variety of starchy/ fibrous carbs. Also make sure to get your good fats in throughout the day (nuts, olive oil, omega3-6-9 caps, salmon)

For supps:
Whey/ Isolate protein powder
Creatine (find what type works best for your body)
Multi Vitamin
Omega 3 caps

Time of day is huge IMO to gain weight I was your exact specs when i started 1 year ago i made that exact shake to supplement 2 of my 7 meals a day worked awesome 1 in the morning with 2% milk and i will wake up at 3am to take another one made with whole milk. Getting enough sleep is huge as well min 8 hours imo. 2 litres of water a day is also very important and BTUFTS recommendations on supplents will help pack on the pounds as well.

Cytogainer is probably the best pre packaged weight gaining supplement on the market in terms of quality. Muscle milk is good as well, but is too low carb to be a true "gainer".

Eat lots of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and take lots of omega 3 oil caps with your shakes.

Creatine and BCAA's are very useful as pre workout and post workout supplements to maintain strength and ecourage recovery.

Glutamine can always be added to any shake or in between meals for added benefit.

Phytonutrient or Greens shakes are always a good idea to get extra vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant support. This will encourage a healthier PH balance which will speed recovery and keep your growing.

Stick with those for 6 months straight and you should see results if you can eat enough whole foods and train according to your needs.
