I dunno man, I think you'd be better off finding a good deal on a JVC 3CCD camcorder instead.

3CCD offer superior image quality versus CMOS. Personally, I've never been fond of the Sony video quality.

If you can, you should buy each one and see for yourself which one you're happy with. I've seen samples of JVC 3CCD HD video and of HD CMOS video, and I thought 3CCD looked much better overall.

I guess it depends on what you plan on recording though, eh? If you're not shooting independent films or documentaries, you could be satisfied with the lesser quality CMOS.

Bit of reading on CMOS vs 3CCD:

The exception of course would be the pro-level RED digital video camera, which uses CMOS (and sells for $17.5k), however consumer level CMOS camcorders have typically more noise in the video than higher end 3CCD (which have come down significantly in price).

To be honest get the Sony HDRXR500 or 520V

500

520V

Has an Exmor Sensor, (back lit sensor meaning you get much better low light shooting) i agree with kloan however you get better battery life out of a cmos sensor (reportedly). i have the previous gen. model to the 520V, last yars SR12, very happy with it.

Put it this way.... needed to order it directly from Canon..took about 2-3 weeks to come in. The #2 guys at the place where we bought it from were jealous and said they wished they sold that type of top quality camera.

they did not have nice cases there for it though...so we went to future shop and just brought the camera in. Same deal....the people there said the same thing....nice camera and could barely keep there eyes off it...wish they stocked up it as well.

so Yup.... the quality of the picture etc is amazing
