Hello
I am new to the forums here. After chatting with some others, I am more confused about supplements and what works, what is useless and what would help me. I am 30 yrs old, 195lbs, fairly lean but want to add more lean size. This is my supplements now..... what do you think? what is a waste? what could be improved? etc?

omega 3....several times a day
multi vitamins-progressive... min 3 a day.
alpha lipoic acid (stopping after this bottle)
Brad kings anti stress (stopping after this bottle)
saw palmatto

pre/during workouts- glutamine+ bcaa in water.
post-same as above plus protein (whey), pineapple juice, dextrose and cinnamon. (sometimes creatine...off at moment)

Now..... I am sorry but I hear so many things from various ppl.. take this, take that etc..... very very annoying, as there is so much hype about supplements and most do nothing..... what is the truth about doing it the right/healthy way. Seems the only real hardcore supps are prohormones or steriod compounds in something, and I do not want that.

I have been considering adding ZMA, glycine, and holy basil but thought it may be a waste..... any suggestions or alternatives in regards to entire supp schedule... I would love to hear anything....

thanks
Jim

you`ve got the basics, such as creatine, protein and vitamins, so I`ll say you`re fine. BCAA`s are always good. ZMA would be a good choice as well and it`s insanely inexpensive.

The gains will come with your diet.

beta-alanine, high dosed bcaa`s, glutamine (which you have), tribulus ( only if you`re over 40 I`d say...), glucosamine or other joint stuff, waxy maize, pre workout drinks like no shotgun, other brain candy like l-tyrosine... I could go on but you get the pic.

Hey
Yes I know the diet is key and mine is very good. I should post it and get it looked at too :) As for supplements, I read some studies saying tribulus is a waste besides I am not at the 40 mark anyways. As for beta alanine I read some research indicating that long term use can damage something to do with the heart, just read it yesterday. I appreciate you going on and on, but really I want only those things proven to work and proven to not cause any harm. In the past I did dabble in Andro etc and boy did it work but did have sides too.

thanks

omega 3....several times a day GOOD
multi vitamins-progressive... min 3 a day. GOOD
alpha lipoic acid (stopping after this bottle) NO NEED
Brad kings anti stress (stopping after this bottle) NO NEED
saw palmatto GOOD FOR PROSTATE

pre/during workouts- glutamine+ bcaa in water. GLUTAMINE USELESS, BCAA'S UNNECESSARY IF GETTING ADEQUATE PROTEIN
post-same as above plus protein (whey), pineapple juice, dextrose and cinnamon. (sometimes creatine...off at moment) MALTO OR WAXY MAIZE BETTER THAN DEX, CREATINE MONO GOOD

Now..... thanks

I agree with what you said about tribulus. It`s really a hit or miss supp. But as far as getting acutal scientific proof for any supp you`re looking into is asking for alot. I mean for the longest time there was no scientific proof that steroids worked, yet the anecdotal evidence said otherwise... And as you know there is science to prove almost anything being good or bad so take it for what it`s worth...

dont mix glutamine with water and drink it while you work out. glutamine after being mixed with water can turn toxic after only 10 minutes.

the micronized versions of glutmaine, including peptides are meant to be consumed immediately after mixing. this holds true for whey protein also.

Turn Toxic in what way?????????I have been mixing Glutimine and whey for years and taking it pre mixed to work and drinking it all the time without any bad effects,up to four hours later. No gas or NAUSEA ISSUES.

i dont remember the exact reason why, but it has to do with certain amino acids becoming harmful unless ingested immediately when being mixed with water.

similar to how creatine coverts to creatinine when it enters into your body. it has something to do with the hydration of the amino acids changing the molecular structure.

never pre mix whey protein unless it comes in an RTD format which has added preservatives to prevent this toxic effect.
