hey all

thanks for stopping on by, i've read as much info as I could about pec tears, and doctors lack of knowledge about them (my family doc at least admits it lol) but all the info i'm reading is about guys in the states, and well i'd love some info for here at home...

i'm pretty damn sure I tore my right pec (slight hollow at the upper outer portion by the armpit that wasn't there b4)

and well i'm getting the run around here just getting MRI and diagnosis, also having LOTS of trouble getting in to see an orthopedic physician/surgeon

anyone can help?

p.s don't know if this belongs in this section so mods feel free to move somewhere more adequate as there is no injury section that I found.

if there was no bruising then u likely didnt tear a muscle... its possible that its a tendon rupture, which doesnt bleed, however u would likely feel some pretty bad pain there

if u still have flexation in the muscle then at worst its a partial tear or its nothing at all except a muscular defect... either way, there isnt much a doctor will do for a partial tear, unless its hanging on by a thread

i tore my pec about two years ago, pec major partial tear, bled into my bicep... no surgery, i kept training around it and about 8 weeks later i resumed a modified chest routine... no visible symptoms to speak of

For those of you that have torn a pec what exercise were you doing when it happened? Were you using extreme range of motion?

Ive had a few minor pec tears...no hemorrhaging (bleeding). First thing is ice during the acute phase (36 hours) after that see a qualified doc/chiro who can diagnose how bad the tear is. For this you may need an unltrasound which they will most likely due instead of an MRI. Just because it doesnt bleed doesnt mean it isnt torn. The same thing holds true for tendons...if it is torn it sometimes will hemmorhage and sometimes will not. Ive torn both biceps tendons and one hemmorhaged and turned my entire arm black the other never bled at all. The only way youll know is by looking at it ie ultrasound or MRI. If it is minor then ART for a few weeks and then very light training after that for a couple weeks will get you back into things. If you had a minor ter before it could also be scar tissue....which tears easily...ART will help with that.

Thanks a lot for the replies, guys, no bleeding, lots of pain which is mostly gone, unless I try to do regular range of motion (reaching up or back kills) and loss of strength for hugging motion/flyes, but I can still kind of push forward (haven't tried hard/heavy, just pushing a door or what not)

The reason why I think its a tear of some kind is because of the small hollow on the outer portion of the pec, at the top of the arm pit. i've suffered a minor pec tear (opposite side) yeras ago doing declines, and no hollow, after 1+ year of training strength was back and pain free. But this side is different, good news is I didn't not hear sound of towel ripping, but just felt something give, maybe a slight pop sound.

LondonMuscle: when you tore your pec, did you have a hollow, and eventually the tissue healed and the hollow filled back with muscle tissue? or no hollow at all?

Ya i would see a RMT for a massage and he will know once he works your pecs, with some ART active release.
