I was doing deadlift with my buddy and one of the personal trainers who works there came up and said that we're putting the weights down too loud, and that this is disturbing other members. When I turned around, "other members" consisted of one girl 30 m away on a treadmill. This is the second time I've had this happen, different gym though - what do you think the guy's problem is? I can't make it any quieter, the weights have no rubber coating, we are not dropping the weight either.

Maybe they think the floor is taking a beating and want you to ease up?

maybe ask them nicely to buy some rubber matting for the area?

They are pussy's and don't understand what it means to lift heavy!

Next time, ask them if they've ever done a deadlift in their life and if so, ask them to demonstrate the proper technique that is quiet. Then, when they lightly lift 135lbs up and softly set it it down...throw 405 on and ask them to show you again.

When they cry and say it's too much weight, you can say, "ya, that's what I thought...bitch".

Well, in the first gym it was the floor, yes, at least that's what the trainer told me, but I explained the situation and they calmed down.

In this gym, I've seen powerlifters drop 5 plates per side and no-one complained. I think I'll ask the guy to demonstrate the proper technique next time, he'll prolly say something like "you don't need deadlift" though. If he keeps talking then I'll ask him politely to ask the management to purchase rubber-coated weights and some rubber padding. Not snapping, maintaining a leader attitude and being polite is key in these situations I think.

But my buddy and I were doing shoulder press on a bench press station (yes, can be done, the idea is that back has no support, feet face the bar initially, you sorta dive under the bar to pick it up with your back) and the same guy came up and stared at us for all sets. In the middle he called someone on his cell, and kept looking at us while talking. Weird.

I've always done shoulder press that way. Is there another way to do them?

Well the gym where I go has 2 stations specifically for shoulder press, where there is back support. This is fine for military behind the neck press, but in this case we were alternating: 8 reps to the front of the neck, 8 to the back.

Put some mats on the floor... I raid the stretching area and take all the leather pads when I do deadlifts... even 1" of foam helps a lot.

Are you talking about leather mats? If so, have you ever had one of them crack? I thought about that too, but I figured the owners would mind. Besides I've seen a ton of guys drop 4-5 plates per side onto the floor, and no-one ever complained :p

Yeah, the leather mats are fine, each plate exerts its own weight within its own footprint, so adding plates doesnt add anymore stress. Its totally fine. Helps stop the plates from banging into each other.

sounds like the guy's just being a prick. i'd complain to management that you're being harassed by this asshole for no reason.

If you want to use max weight for max growth, then yeah, use a back support. You sound like one of those guys who use stabliser balls to work the core bullshit.

just ask him to file complaint and stop bugging u.. if the managment has a problem u can discuss it with someone who has a brain in their skull, sounds like a Goodlife "MASTER TRAINER" lol

You are not dropping weights, using equip improperly, being a dick, or damaging anything so the trainers are probobly just trying to be tough guys. I ran into this once at my gym training with another CBB member. I put down the rubber coated 140lb dbs on the ground after incline DB press and he made a huge scene and lost his mind. Its intimidating to them when you walk into a place where they are supposed to be the geniuses and u completely own them with your own physique. They go home after they told you off and feel like a tough guy. Jokes on them man. LOL :moon

Thanks guys - the issue resolved itself. That trainer left the gym (or maybe he was fired), so I can DL all I want!! Next week is off, just finished my cutting program... so tired and hungry...

I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to change gyms this year. The ymca is crushingly pussified. I talked with the facility manager about getting us more 45 pound plates and a couple more bars this week and she told me that televisions for the 3 new elliptical machines were far more important.

Her ignorance with regard to strength training was beyond stunning. I'm fairly sure the Young Men's Christian Association would prefer to remove all of the men.

LOL - I always had the impression that YMCAs were ok... I guess not.

Great day care facilities but the "Young Men" part has been completely abandoned.

Theres an idiot in my gym who does his working sets with 135 and makes more noise crashing the plates than anyone else who does far more weight.

As far as gym etiquite, where I am it seems to be the biggest offenders are left alone and once in a while they'l try to make an example of some poor kid.
Good way to lose customers.
