The first Ultimate Fighting Championship event to be held in Canada, slated for Saturday, April 19 at the Bell Centre, is officially sold out with more than 21,000 tickets purchased.
Organizers at a press conference last Monday announced that more than 13,500 tickets had been pre-sold exclusively to UFC Fight Club members in less than 24 hours. The remaining tickets went on sale yesterday morning and were all gone within five minutes, organizers annnounced.
Tickets were priced at $550, $400, $225, $100 and $50.
"I'm excited to say that this is the fastest-selling event in UFC history and that Montreal holds the record for sales in UFC history, so it's safe to say we definitely will be back in Canada after this inaugural event," UFC president Dana White said. The main event for the UFC 83 card will between Quebec's own Georges (Rush) St-Pierre and American Matt (The Terror) Serra for the undisputed UFC welterweight championship.
The fight will be available live on a number of pay-per-view TV networks, including Bell ExpressVu, DirecTV and Viewer's Choice Canada, for $44.95.
