Not trying to sound like a dick but it shouldn't really matter what weight class he wants to enter. Come in conditioned and you'll end up wherever you end up :)

It's hard to tell now as you said its where ever i'm conditioned, i'd like to think i'd be well conditioned at 180-185 based on past experiences. It doesn't take much for me to get conditioned and i've gone past that point in the past.

How old, chief?

Drugs?

Rad physique, btw. A critique (if you're looking for them): Looks like you could use some hamstrings.

aha i'll be in juniors any how, if there are weight classes i'd "hope" to be in heavy weight but i dont think there would be enough competitors to have different classes

no weight classes for juniors.

I predict you end up around 165-170lbs.

Thats very possible. Last time a dieted i started at 185-190 and ended up at 170. now at 205 i have a bit more weight to work with, still not very fat. I'm hoping 180 but that can't be determined yet.

Good beach body at 180

agreed with Nate. 165-170 tops. Especially considering, as I said in the other thread, you were 170 not long ago, and odds were you were not contest shape at that time.

natenator

Most often Juniors are either too small with semi decent conditioning (more of a swimmers build lol) or have some size but lack good conditioning so I think with your solid muscle base you should aim to come in as super conditioned as possible.

Overall quite an impressive physique for an 18 year old especially being natural. If you stay natural for the show ud be a shreded welterweight 165 class in the mens open. With a little supplement support would be a shredded light middle 176. If u compete at 180 you won't be lean enough. Even a pretty cut beach bod type physique is still about 20 lbs over stage weight. Its amazing how much fat we have on our bodies. I remember posing in the mirror each weak thinking I was ripped only to here my gf constently tell me I had fat on my back and what not. I mean even a week out she was saying she was worried I was not going to be lean enough and it was the leanest I had been in my life. Don't worry abotu the scale jsut realize the leaner the better if u want to win but at 18 ur not expected to be as lean as steve parker as u'd have no muscle left by the end of it.
My brother Steve used to compete as a junior in pretty good shape in the mid 140's contest weight on stage and then lost 17 lbs more to compete at 128 at the drug tested nationals in 2000 and won the overall (at 128 lbs he won the overall at 5 foot 6 1/2) so size is not everything blinding muscularity I believe is what the write up said in the magazines. He was messed up for weeks after that diet though so u gotta kinda be realistic and go somewhere in the middle. 6% bodyfat is lean enough to look amazing.

btufts
13-12-2009, 12:11 AM
6% would be amazing and i think it is reachable, can a junior even win the overall?? jeez.. what kind of supplements are we talking here gregg? glutamine creatine sort of supps or dhea m1t type supplements aha

Yep...don't go to an extreme, especially on you're first show. Its not worth it, not in the short run, or the long run. I was 20 when I got that ripped, and it was literally weeks after the show that I came back to life. 1 week AFTER the show I was waking up in the morning lighter than show day. I couldn't drink 1 cup of water without it leaving me in minutes. Pretty messed up.

I know no one says to aim for a weight, but sometimes it helps to. First show, and you know you were 170 a few months ago. Aim for 165, and convince yourself its not worth losing another for a little competition. Short term gain, long term loss.

Thank you, as of today i weight myself this morning before breakfast and i was 196. I wonder how much of what i lost has been water/fat/muscle? I would assume mostly water, i feel a lot leaner and striations are starting to appear in my shoulders, abs are becoming more visible but i've got a bit to lose on my obliques and lower abs. those seem to be the hardest places to lose fat.

gregdoucette
14-12-2009, 10:19 PM
The "supplements" that would add that kind of muscle are the illigal ones.

btufts
14-12-2009, 11:27 PM
Yeah i wont be getting into any of those i don't think its worth it just for a competition. 165 is crazy though i'm 5'10"

steve_d
15-12-2009, 05:39 AM
yes, you're 5'10, but you're also 18. Don't expect to win the overall on you're first show. I was 140 my first show (at your age), at 5'6, and I wasn't even lean considering the standards. Probably 7% or so.

so yeah, 165 is a good weight. if you're over that and ripped, you've probably decided to take those "supplements".

consider this, 18 years old 165 ripped. add 3 pounds of muscle per year for 10 years straight. You're not even 30 years old and you're competing at 200, natural.

I'm down with that haha. So i'm finding i'm losing a lot of fat really fast, or water, i've dropped about 10 pounds or so can you lose fat too fast? i mean i'm still 15 weeks out and dropping a lot. I'm also starting my keto diet today. I feel awesome, my strength is higher than before i started dieting. I'll post pictures up soon but my skin is getting a lot tighter to my muscles everywhere.

Good stuff bro, you can lose fat to fast if using t-3 etc, or really starving yourself of nutrients, id say mostly water it will slow down soon, after a couple weeks usually.....
I cant wait to start dieting, i always feel great on a diet........healthy, and energetic...

15-12-2009, 08:49 PM
you're right, strangely i thought i would have less energy on a keto diet but i have tons of energy even though i'm always hungry. Got a bit of brain fog going on throughout the day but hopefully that will subside when my body kicks into ketosis.

and i just had a question about the keto diet (off topic sorry) but if i'm taking creatine monohydrate which requires an insulin boost to work, is it alright to have that teaspoon of sugar with it before and after workout?

Creatine Monohydrate doesn't require sugar to work. If you are on a keto diet just take it with water.

Creatine Monohydrate doesn't need sugar to elicit an insulin response for transport into the cells? Please explain further...you've got my attention now.

You're on your way for sure.
Speaking from someone who's trained many many guys for shows, you should be doing this for the personal challenge it presents and not for the chance to win.
Unfortunately there are very few guys who have the aesthetics and structure to continue up the competitive ladder, but all the others still compete because they really enjoy the process and satisfaction of achieving something most people only dream of.
When you approach bodybuilding from this point of view it doesn't really matter where you place. Just that you gave it your all.

As far as your keto questions...ask Preatorian those things in his Q&A thread and he'll answer with some intelligent responses.

aha sorry about the lighting guys there's two lights in the room and its my Macbook's camera so poor quality. I'm trying to stay away from the scale to be honest, i think it will just throw me off mentally. I'm probably 195 right now still. MY incentive for this transformation is to basically get more shredded than i have ever been in my life and that is a personal goal. I don't really care much about placing in the contest i just want to show off the hard work i put in, i love bodybuilding and will always continue the sport so it does not mean much to me. I feel more ripped every day with the Diet plan Praetorian sent me (thank you!) and i will for sure keep posting pictures as we get closer to contest time. Thanks everyone who's helped me out so far.

its my understanding that the insulin allows the CRM to enter the cells faster. if taken w/out hi gi carbs, it would take longer for it to reach max concentration levels. i've read that happends about 1.5 hrs after ingestion

Thanks L3, and i'm not taking it with any simple sugars. it still gives me the boost to get through my workouts, and helps me with recovery. definately good to have.

well its been about 3 weeks, i'm down to 190, fat loss is starting to slow down. right now my diet looks something like this:

meal 1: 4 full eggs, 1/2 cup egg whites.

meal 2: 50g protein shake, 1/3 cup almonds.

meal 3: T-bone steak, 1/3 cup almonds.

meal 4: 50 g protein shake, 2 tbsp peanutbutter

meal 5: 1 can tuna, 2 tbsp olive oil.

meal 6: T-bone steak, spinach with olive oil vinagrette dressing and 1/4 cup almonds.

Tons of energy still, taking my fat burners and green tea, noticing differences everyday. 30 minutes cardio almost everyday, bumping it up soon. going to try EC stack once my fat burners are gone. Upping cardio this week once the gym opens again. I also tried the creatine monohydrate for a few days but began to hold a lot of water in my stomach so i stopped. I'll update soon.

seeing as it is your last meal of the day it will end up sitting in your stomach over night to digest so having it ground or barely cooked will make it easier for your stomach to utilize what the beef as to offer rather than it working to break it up

btufts
26-12-2009, 05:39 PM
makes sense, my last meal of the day is still 1-2 hours before i go to sleep and i take digestive enzymes so i don't think it should be too much of a problem.
