Having recently stalled on my max effort on Back Squats, I've been thinking of either augmenting them with box squats as an accessory excercise or replacing them with box squats for a couple of months.

My core leg exercise are currently Leg Press, Squat and Front Squat.

Are box squats as bodybuilding exercise a good replacement exercise for squats?

how about alternating from week to week?

box week1
back squat week 2
box week 3
etc

Yes, they are a good replacement. They aregreat for helping with form.

You can do as Wade said or you can do them straight for a few months. Personally when I started doing them I found them harder, as I had the feeling I was going to fall, so I stopped doing free squatting. Start light and work your way up and soon you'll have a new max.

Remember to sit back, not down.

Great exercise especially to teach people how to squat correctly. I alternate box squats with regular squats weekly. Your recovery will be much better on box squats as well so your regular squat weight will tend to increase.
