View Full Version : What do you think I should do?
Here is the deal. I am a nice guy. Even if I tried to be a dick to someone I just couldn’t do it.
I was working out one day by myself at the gym and a guy approached me and asked me a few questions about working out. I answered what he wanted to know and then I said that if he would like he can workout with me cause I am bulking right now and that's what he is trying to do. So I've been working out with this guy for 2 months now. He is doing my routine and I am giving him all the diet knowledge that I have and am using.
This is what pisses me off!
He is acting like I am his personal trainer. It's been 2 months and he still doesn't know what exercise to do and what weight. I have to remember the weight for him. On top of it I am trying to be on his schedule, I go to the gym when he wants to cause I don't have a job right now so it's cool. I show up at a time that we said we would be there and he is 35min late. I waited for him once but not anymore. Now he seems to be getting pissy with me because I started working out without him cause he was late. On top of it my wife is pregnant so she can't go to the gym so I gave his wife my wife’s gym pass. I talked to him for 2 months now about me not being able to get a job so he finally on Friday said that his dad works of purolator and can get me a job there and that he needs my resume and drivers abstract ASAP. Great! I have class 1 license and got my drivers abstract that day and I am ready to go. Now he's made excuses for the last 3 day about not being able to come to the gym so I can't give him my resume and drivers abstract. What the ****!!! I do need a job but this is getting to be a bit too much. **** I hate people taking advantage of me. What do you think I should do?

Just sleep with him and get it over with..
Naw i'd just stop making yourself so available. Write some stuff down for the guy
$50 an hour if you need to write stuff down for him.
You got yourself a real life Vampire bro. Be careful he doesn't completely drain you. (no homo, I had to think of the least homo wording for you guys ;))

take your resume to puralator and don't worry about someone putting in a good word...if a guy can go 2 months training one on one with someone serious enough to know about "bulking" (rather than just some guy working out) and not learn anything than he's not worth helping anymore. don't let this deter you from helping someone else though...i work out at home right now for various reasons, but if i went to a gym and someone who knew far more than myself offered their help, i wouldn't shit on them...i'd do what i'm told and pay attention.
Yeah he seems to be turning out a bit shady. I have been stressed as hell about work and to tell me that he can get me a job and then not follow through on it is really disrespectful for everything I've done for him. I know it's been only 3 days but I needed a job months ago. I think I will slowly distance myself from him and keep trying to get a job on my own.

Wow bro you would think he would be kissing your ass. As what you are doing for him would cost alot of money. I agree with Nate you need to be a bit of a prick and maybee he will get the hint. I try not to be a dick but I wont be taken advantage of either.

I think you should go to Purolator and hand in your resume, abstract, and a nice coverletter all by your lonesome

haha, shitty........i'd just run into Purolator with a clean res/abs for the win bro......lotsa work out there for a 1 driver ;)
I've been looking for work everywhere but I just got my license and everyone is looking for 2 years experience minimum. I figured since I can't get a job as a technologist I might as well get class 1 and try out trucking. It's been tough but something will come up.

ah yes that ol routine..cant get experience without a chance to. I used to like hiring less experienced 1 drivers for my trucking company (sold) just for the reason of training them up for my own preferences plus I found them to be more cautious and caring for my trucks as well!!
...what type of trucking you looking for?

what type of technologist are you ? if you dont mind me asking ?
I am a Mechanical Engineering Technologist by trade however before graduating I started working as a Civil Engineering Technologist. I have a year of Mechanical experience and about 6 years of Civil. I got my diploma from Mohawk College in Hamilton and since it’s an advanced program (3 year) I always have a good shot at getting work. I got laid off in January and haven't been able to find a job since(in Calgary). The jobs that I used to do companies now are looking for P.Engs just because they can. I applied to a Ft.McMurray job by mistake on Friday and I have a job interview for it tomorrow. Too funny, the company is in Calgary but the job is in Ft.McMurray. I am considering moving there just for work but it will suck since I am married and have a baby on the way and a house in Calgary. I would have to go there by myself and fly back every two weeks to see my family.
Since I haven't been able to get a job for a long time I just figured to get Class 1 and try to get a driving job since there are lots advertised. $2000 later I got my Class 1 license but now I can't get a job cause I don't have experience. If I lived anywhere else I am pretty sure I would be able to get a job no problem but my wife has another year of school left at the U of C so we are in Calgary until she finishes. Right now I am looking for anything since I am desperate for work. My EI runs out at the end of the year and I will be stuck doing a $10/hr job if I can get one.

Hey man if you have any leads I would really appreciate that. Since you've been in the trucking industry you might know companies that hire green guys. I am offering everyone 2 weeks for free to check me out. I am looking for ANY driving, lol.

Thanks man I appreciate that. Where do you live? I have seen some electrical work in Calgary and good paying too 65k or so but nothing mechanical or civil. There was some civil a month or so ago but it was a CAD jockey position and very low pay. A month after I got laid off I had a job interview and was offered a job at 23k less then was I was making. I figured the money was really low and I will find another job for sure. Man was I wrong.

I live in northern Ontario, I'm trying to stay in Ontario but i'm pretty much looking for jobs all over Canada. I don't want to miss out on a good opportunity. I was a CAD monkey for a while, its not bad, but when there's hardly any work thats when it gets real boring. i thought I was going to get a job at one of the big mines down here, I had a few interviews everything was going great. then the mine went on this big hiring freeze. I got bad timing i guess
Hiring freeze seems to be the story in Calgary as well but one thing that I don't get is why do they post jobs if they are not going to hire anyone. It just gets my hopes up.

don't know if relocation is an option, vlad...

Relocation is not really an option at this point since I have a house in Calgary and would lose an arm and a leg if I sell it in this market. Also, my wife has another year of school at the U of C. It would be possible for her to do it from another place since she is in her last year of PhD and is just writing her dissertation but once in a while she has a meeting that she has to attend so it would be a bit of a hassle to move. I had a job interview yesterday with a company from Fort McMurray and they have made me an offer which is really hard to refuse. Today they are checking out my references and probably going to make me a concrete offer. I might have to take it and fly back to Calgary every two weeks to see my family. I wasn't really serious about it but they offered me $950/month for living allowance on to of the salary so it's hard to say no, plus a vehicle with paid insurance a gas and plus a bunch of other things. I guess companies treat their employees very well in Fort McMurray.

take it and build up the bank but continue to look for what you want/prefer.
Baby on the way, Christmas, etc. No time to be scrambling for $$$

most do, and there is a shitpile of $$ to be made there. i've had offers as an employee that rival what i can make here as an owner/contractor.
housing is very pricey though, even coming from calgary.
To Fort McMurray I go. Got the job and a really nice offer. Heading out tomorrow morning.
