If so, what do you use?

I tried for a bit mainly because of the callouses - doing deads or shrugs would seriously start ripping them off and hurt like ****.

Interfered with my jerking off!

But didn't like how they felt so I stopped after a week.

I wear gloves. I think they are an old pair of box-tec that I got at Dotmar a bunch of years ago. The iron in my gym gets cold at 0 celcius in the mornings.

Gloves ever since I tore a callous and started to bleed on the bar. My thinking is, if someone else had just done the same on the same handle I could have caught herpes or aids

All the guys at my gym who wear them are either fat bastards or weak bastards. Or pretty boys.

That is funny cause I use gloves and I do have a beer gut. Mind you it used to be a keg but, I have it down to a six pack now.

they probably don't want to get callouses on their manicured hands

I dont wear gloves, but I've been to a few gyms where I wish I had (the grips were greasy as hell)... gloves interfere IMO, I like the direct contact, makes for better control of the weight. I use lifting straps for heavy deads and pullups etc, so Im protected from the nasty callouses that way.

I used to use gloves when I was younger. The only thing I used them for was bench. For some reason they really seemed to help improve my bench. Any other lifts I tried it affecting my grip, which is already lacking.

Ordering some wrist straps to help with shrugs, been looking for a decent pair of gloves for bench. Think I'll just order some from eBay.

Why would gloves help your bench? Did they have wrist wraps built in?

It was the way they padded my palms... there wasn't as much pressure in the palm of my hands and it felt like I could concentrate my strength better on the push movement.

2 guys wearing them tonight at the gym. Both weak pussies. Nuff said.

i've been told that wearing gloves while deadlifting will help with your grip. Your forced to hold the bar harder because of the glove thickness.

Just an observation I have been making over 20 years of training. Do what you want man.

It's not meant to offend anyone. Just that unless you are under the age of 16 or have a vagina, gloves are generally frowned upon by serious lifters.

Yet 'serious lifters' use knee wraps, belts, chalk, bench shirts.. and all have legitimate reasons for using them, gloves are no different. I'm not talking about wearing them to look cool, but for helping limit pain and enable more focus for the lift.. just as wraps, belts, etc do.

I found they helped me with bench in the past (but interfered with other lifts/pulls). I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else uses them. Anyway, not everyone in BB world is blessed with an iron grip and thickly padded palms.

Looks like Harbinger makes some nice ones.. I'll probably order some of those and hope they fit alright.

how do they help with your bench in a way that chalk can't?

I've never used chalk so I can't say for certain. But I don't think chalk would do anything to help alleviate the pain I experience in my hands when I bench.

The gloves I used to use a few years ago were kinda cheap/crappy, but they had sufficient padding and helped distribute the weight load from the bar. When I bench now (aside from the fact that my shoulder feels like it's going to burst into flames), my hands start to cramp up after a few reps, especially as I progress in weight.. and the bar really digs into the palms.

I'm still letting my shoulder recuperate before I bench again, however when I introduce it back in I'd like to use some gloves again like I used to when I was younger.

Chalk's messy anyway, I can't use that in my room.. I've got carpeting.

There used to be this guy at my old gym that actually used a folded up towel in each hand when he did flat dumbell presses to cushion his palms. Not sure what his issue was. Tender Palm Syndrome?

I should start wearing gloves regulary so Gilbert can tell me how much of a gaylord I am. <eyeroll>

The day before yesterday a guy threw on 275 and pressed with hand towels between the bar and his hands. I have never seen that before.

275 for 3 without touching, so it sure didnt make him strong.

no gloves here, if my hands start to sweat i grab a paper towel and fold it in each hand
i dont think its smart to get your muscles way ahead of your grip and pain threshold what ever u feel. bench shirts, straps, belts, gloves, if u cant lift it raw u probably shouldnt be lifting it, ur asking for a muscle tear or other injust IMO

I used to when I first started lifting, but don't now.
They weaken your grip, plus aren't allowed in pling competitions!

I suppose Ronnie Coleman was never a serious lifter then.

I use em', love 'em, use the ones with very good wrist support also...started using them a few years ago when i started training at a gym that does not allow chalk.

HAHAH nice!! I love those guys, there's this boxing club at my gym.. some of the guys are cool but majority are cocky douchebags with no skills. They work out in taped hands and then hit the heavy bag for 10 seconds so they can stand at the fountain for 5 minutes and stare everyone down

Got the Harbinger gloves today... the fit is alright, I was hoping for a slightly tighter fit in the hand, but I'm sure they'll be fine.

Shipping was super fast from these guys, and they have great deals... ordered some Harbinger padded wrist straps from them as well for $10. That'll help with shrugs.
