Correlations of aas use and heart disease is something we often dont talk about here. i personally wish i knew more about it.

A lot of the potential risks of AAS use aren't discussed here (or many places) because people want to stick their head in the sand and believe what they're doing to be healthier alternative to sitting around doing nothing getting fat just because they go to the gym and do cardio every now and again.

Regardless of the AAS usage of pro wrestlers I found the piece to be fascinating. I find documentaries such as these on the wrestling industry to be quite fascinating in general as it's not just AAS use which wrestlers are subjecting themselves to.

Here's one with Rowdy Piper as the feature interview that I found quite interesting as well:

I think its the diet which affects us more than the hormones

As far as I am aware, bodybuilders don't have these kinds of death rates.Has to be another factor besides juice. Many of them do have more disposable income.

Enlarged prostate, enlarged heart (which could also be due to working out), thickening of veins... those are because of the diet???

I didn't post this as a discussion on AAS usage but rather as a discussion on the general lifestyle of a professional wrestler which likely includes AAS usage but that is not the only drugs being used. From drug use, to body abuse to lifestyle of being on the road for 200-300 wrestling events every year.

I can tell you firsthand that AAS is the least of a wrestler's worries... As sad as it might be, you can pretty much compare pro wrestlers to strippers... if any of you have dated dancers, you know what I mean...

They get drunk and stoned so they feel more comfortable on stage, then need Percs and E to keep going, then they smoke a fatty and take a shitload of Ketamine to sleep...

Many wrestlers(I can't say all, but I do know MANY of them personally that do this) take painkillers to make it through, Somas to relax, anti-depressants to help cope with the rigorous schedule and shitty home life, etc.... add the AAS on top and it becomes a dangerous combo...

Thank you. I was hoping you would chime in with your experience here.

Thank you. I was hoping you would chime in with your experience here. It's really a shame, what goes on behind closed doors... As a courtesy to the business I've been a part of for almost 18 years, I would be an ass to divulge any real info, but the stats speak for themselves...

Most of these guys are good people.. good people who just love a sport that is difficult to do without many crutches...

I agree. I almost feel bad for the majority of the guys out there. Yes it's personal choice if you choose to use substances to help you deal and cope but it's a double edge sword.... don't perform and don't have a career/money and can't support your family.

Wrestling is almost akin to MMA. Lots of parallels of promoters getting rich while the stars and performers are not. No retirement plan, no benefits, etc. Sure some do very well but I wager the majority do not do well at all.

Question: Why did you and do you still do it?

i would say these ppl do it because they grow up idolizing wrestlers...they wanna leave a legacy behind...have fans....make memories...become famous to many...they actually have to love the business to go through it...its not a get rich quick business...it takes its toll...but that doesnt happen to every person who tried to become a wrestler...and then they end up on the hard side of things and there caught in a business where its all they know how to do...and mix up everything the drugs and the lifestyle it can take its toll...
one name to mention: Eddie Guerrero the guys lived for the love for the business but in the end the lifestyle and the mix of drugs and everything for the business took its toll and he died in 2005...but he did leave a legacy behind and great memories..but he was only 38 :S...

I've seen it with my own eyes - Jake the Snake passed out drunk choking to death in the locker room, some of the workers had to bring Jake to the hospital. He didn't know where the **** he was. He pulled down his god damn pants...Yuk!

Wrestling is a very hard business...guys are on the road 300 - 350 days a year.

Like BDH said, some shit is better left in the locker room, ppl have no idea what this business is all about. Backstage politics, paying your dues etc...I have friends, many friends in this business and they all do it because they have a passion for Wrestling.

Look at Sherrie Martel, Brian Pillman, Ms.Elizabeth, Louie Spiccoli, Test (Andrew Martin), The British Bulldog, The curse of the Von Erich's family and the list goes on and on.

..Lex Luger (Total Package) was once rich and famous, almost succumbed to his injuries now currently lives in his preachers house or something.

...Scott Hall = Booze = Drugs
...Chyna = Booze = Drugs

You've got the Shawn Michaels, Sunny, Lex Luger who turned their life around for the better.
