Hi everyone I am the guy many people love to hate. Just thought I would mention 3000$ is up for grabs for all former NS overall winners this year. I am not sure if I am going to compete yet as I was planning to powerlift this year and take time to grow. Time will tell. Not sure if its winner take all or if itsw split between the top 3

Hi Greg, welcome to CBB. No love to hate on my part. Just respect. Anyone that can lift that kind of weight at your size and compete at the nationals deserves my respect.
Also is the NS provincials an amateur show? I thought there was no money prizes for amateurs?

I thought so too, but it seems that other cbbf shows are doing it. the ottawa show gave out a bunch of cash prizes couple weeks ago

Great. It's good to see some $$ going into the athletes hands. It's not like bbing is cheap.
I would also think they are starting to give money prizes to compete against other organizations that are now doing it (non ifbb). Wise move.

Hi Greg. Glad you accepted the invitation to become part of CBB. When I saw your powerlifting vids, I was very impressed.
I have a question, I saw that you place your legs in a V while you do your deadlifts, I usually keep them pretty straight (great for my shins..lol). Is there a difference?

Sumo (wide stance) vs conventional deallifts make a huge diff. Most people are alot stronger 1 style then the other. Its about 50/50 in terms of elite lifters choice of stance. My longer torso and short tibia make it much better for me to do sumo stance. I lift 90 lbs less conventional style. If ur having back problems ur better off doing sumo. I do train both lifts but focus on sumo when getting ready for powerlifting and do more conventional getting ready for bodybuilding. I have learned over the years not to deadlift and squat every single workout as it taxes the same muscle groups and leads to overtraining.
I dealift normally every 10 days now (every 2nd back workout) but I squat basically every leg day unless I am feeling injured or overly sore. I'd recomend doing both styles for a while and then pick the one you enjoy more and do that 1st in your workout and then finish off with the other style as a down set with higher reps to get a good pump. That way you'll get the best of both worlds.

Hi Greg!
I was wondering how often you do max effort?

I rarely do max effort singles per say but I nearly always do max effort lifts as in training to failure. I only max out at competition time and maybe within a few weeks of the competition. By max effort I always ask myself if someone had given me 1000$ do do one more rep could I have done it, if the answer is yes I am not training hard enough. I dont max out every evercise but I do for the big 3 squat bench and deadlifts.

Hey Gregg,
Wicked to have you posting on the site man, you've been a big inspiration for me since i've started powerlifting.
Hopefully you'll start a Q&A thread like a couple other guys.
good to see you on here bro

looks like they are taking away the 3000$ showdown of past champions:
Hi everyone, unfortunately, it was decided by the board that we are not able to host a Showdown of the overalls for the upcoming provincial show. This idea came to us very recently and it may very well have added great entertainment value but, logistically, we just couldn’t put together a good solution that was fair to all. Some felt that a professional guest poser would also be a great choice so we are currently working on making that happen. Really sorry for any confusion or disappointment this may have caused. We really didn't want to put this idea out there and have to cancel it down the road when athletes might be in the middle of training so it was important that we get the message out now.

Yes I jsut got the same e-mail, battle of former overalls has been canceled. Seemed like a good idea something other federations would do to hype up a show.

If there's no cash prizes and no money spent on guest posers, someone out there must be making some money...?
