I posted earlier how I purchased a Storm and hated it.... Froze all the time and had poor browsing, and some other problems.

I took Nates advice and bought a Bold 9700. And wow, what a difference. I have the sim card and i browse almost as fast as my computer. The phone works great, emails are spot on, and has all the a-typical BB features.

My only complaint is that it is so small its hard to type. I can do it but sometimes my hands cramp and there is often backspace and cursing.

camera is fast and responsive

screen is high res

phone works good

all in all I think this must be the best BB out there.

Oh, instead of a ball to navigate the pointer, it has a sensor ,which works great

If I were to purchase a BB again, it'd be this one. I wish I had a job that required me to have one.

I wanted to get the bold but I think rogers only had it ??

I live in a small town and rogers has poor coverage.

I can only use telus or bell

Edit: just checked and Telus has the Bold now, i'm going to look into somehow switch my storm for a bold. I wonder if they give some sort of a discount

yes, the browsing is very fast... remarkable. But I have the sim card which somehow speeds it up. Costs an additional $10 per month, but they threw it in.

and yes, Telus has the bold. I am with them, and the network is 3G

The bold is slow because it isnt 3G. The new Onyx or Bold 2 is 3G and rippin. I have it and switched from the iphone and never will go back.

The iphone was a neat novelty at best.

lol Nate secretly agrees with everything I say, but he wont let himself admit it.

other way around ;)

And we actually agree on a lot of things but even when we disagree I at least know Wade actually put some thought and effort into how he thinks. I get the feeling he's settled down with a thick book every now and again as opposed to doing what a few here do... read the inside and back covers

On topic: I can't wait to get my 9700 :)

why are you having trouble tying? I go big hands and have no problem on my 9000. Seriously, I can easily palm a basketball.

I think I just need to get used to it.
So far I am having a better time with one handed typing, so I will probably stick with that...

dont quote me, but I think the 9700 is smaller then the 9000

it is a tad smaller, yes.

The new bold 9700 on Bell and Telus is an HSPA device. On actual speed tests it connects at just under 6mbit... standard home internet connection now is around 7. They're fast as hell. The rogers Bold is about 2mbit because it runs on their EDGE network which is old and slow. Even though HSPA is technically 3G it's being dubbed 3.5. The cool thing about the Bell and Telus network they just put up, it's LTE ready and a software "patch" just needs to be put in to turn it on. LTE has a peak download of 325mbit... now THAT is going to be fast.

It's way smaller. The 9000 is about the size of the old 8703 with the wheel on the side but a bit thinner. It's bigger than the Tour and Curve. The 9700 is the smallest blackberry to date. It's nice, but I'm holding out for the Storm 2 which I'm told will be January

It's comparable to the Curve 8700 (which I had and didn't like.. those trackballs are retarded!)

I went out to buy my bold and we dont have the "new" network out here, so it seems like telus here wont have the bold or the Iphone.

The bold 9700 for rogers is also HSPA as well. Speeds have been acheived at around 6mbs correct but thats on a hardly occupied network. That tune will change once belllus has a million subscribers like rogers. Although when LTE rolls out that is going to be amazing. It wont mean much for the average user on a cell phone. Tethering would be a substantial difference.

Unfortuantly if you are a HSPA user on bellus, you are ****ed once you are out of the HSPA calling area (ie alberta). At least rogers has something to fall back on! (EGDE)

Wrong again, the pearl is. The 9700 is almost exactly the same size as the 8900.

yeah its just about a tad bigger...the 8900 and 9700 is a solid phone

Rogers HSPA network covers southern ontario, alberta, and a few major cities here and there. Around here they're still on Edge. And you're right, with Bell and Telus once you're outside of an HSPA network you have no service, however 93% of the canadian population have access to HSPA

I thought you were full of shit with the 93% untill i googled it myself ha ha. Your right, and that is impressive!

What gets me however is the times where i am traveling, hiking, camping, fishing and anything else that i do outside of the city.

Its all of those times that i would be SOL if i was with a bellus and on a HSPA phone. CDMA, thats another story!

From what I'm told every CDMA tower has been outfitted with the HSPA system. It cost billions to do, but I was told it's all completed. So there shouldn't be anywheres that CDMA works that HSPA doesn't. And actually HSPA works in big buildings and malls where the CDMA couldn't penetrate. Problem we're seeing is when ppl are near borders, because of increased penetration more ppl are picking up towers from other provinces causing LD to be billed.

This i believe is incorrect however. If you go to the bell coverage map and select the difference between HSPA and "Bell Coverage" it is drastically different.

I have heard of the problem with the LD billing. I have heard from friends at flames games that its happened to them.

You're right, I see the diff especially in manitoba and saskatchewan, the info being given to me must be atlantic canada which is where I'm based, the coverage is identical for both in this area.
