View Full Version : GSP vs. ?
Who do you guys think has any chance against GSP in the 170lb division? Dan Hardy is next to fight GSP but I don't think that he has a slight chance. He is a hard puncher but so was Thiago Alves and look what happened. In my opinion Josh Koscheck might be GSP's best competitor right now.

I agree with the decision to put Hardy. I think the only people with a chance against GSP right now are people with heavy hands. I dont think he will get beaten on the ground because of his excellent wrestling. GSP has been rocked before, so it can be done again. I think the peolpe with the heaviest hands have the best chances. I know koschek wanted a shot at him, but I mean he just had a loss in like 2-3 fights ago. Maybe after a few more wins he will get a shot. For now I agree with Hardy facing GSP. That being said, I still think GSP will beat either, but theres always that punchers chance...

Mr O ? :)
Just because he got rocked my Matt Serra, GSP is extra careful with heavy punchers. He didn't take any chances with Alves and I think he will do the same with Hardy. This should be the whole fight.....Hardy goes down, ground and pound and maybe he gets stopped or loses decision. I can't wait to see Koscheck with GSP since he is a heavy puncher but is also an excellent wrestler.

anthony johnson or koscheck would both be better opponents than hardy..there really is no one who can touch him right now..
Sorry Mr.O I forgot about you, lol.

Well, I dont mean that a haevy puncher WILL catch him... what I meant was that its the only way that I see anyone beating him. I cant see anyone beating him on the ground because of his wrestling....

I agree. I love watching GSP fight but it's becoming too boring and predictable since no one is on his level.
Hardy has a chance. He's a natural puncher,Koschek is not, although his recent win certainly got my respect.

I think GSP should do what anderson Silva did, move up a weight-class, even though anderson didnt move up for a title shot, it is still atleast a challenge for him. GSP owns the 170 division right now, I dont see anyone actually beating him. I think he should move up just for the sake of competition.

GSP moving up is dumb he stomps nyone in 170 and gets paid double to win so why would he set him self up for a potential loss, he is raising the 170 bar, maybe when lesnar is feeling better, and weighing practically nothing, he will fight in 170
GSP would have to gain about 20lbs of muscle to fight at 185. He is a large 170 but not that big 185. Take a look at Nate Marquardt that guy is a monster at 185. Sure GSP would beat a lot of guys but it would be much tougher and some of them would rag doll him around.
I think Hardy GSP will be a decent fight.
Hardy is no pussy. He works hard in the ring.

Well, let's make something clear first, the reason he got rocked against serra in the first place is because Serra is a short ****er and when GSP tried to duck him Serra caught the back of his head. the cervo-motor portion of the brain is in this area, catch a punch there hard enough and you aren't knocked out but are unable to move properly for a few. It happened to couture vs lesnar also.
Anyhow, point is, that's a rare luck Serra got, no matter how much punchers chance he may have (Serra suck as a boxer :p). All in all, Kos has a better chance to beat GSP from what I have seen of his last fight than Hardy does, but Hardy is fun to watch and a higher GSPPY ratio (GSP per year) would be great.

The UFC was talking about making that fight about a year ago, but Dana's back off from it since... I think he likes having invincible looking fighters.
Theres nobody at 170 that has a chance if GSP is focused IMHO. GSP is a complete fighter, and he's still getting better.

i dont think he should fight silva... lol. But after so long people will tire of seeing the same ground and pound outcome over and over

I cannot imagine GSP getting beaten. He is too technical, too fast, to agile, too smart, too fit, too everything. He makes beating his contenders easy.....every time.
I would LOVE to see him build up a little more mass and jump up a div. A silva GSP fight would be the biggest fight the world has ever seen.

GSP has already thrown Koscheck around like a rag doll. I haven't seen Koscheck improve nearly enough to make a difference in that outcome.

agree with this...gsp badly out-wrestled koscheck and that's supposed to be his bread and butter...nothing has improved on kos' side since he fought gsp so i'm not sure why he thinks he could beat him now. Same goes for fitch.
I'd rather see new guys try to take out gsp than watch gsp repeatedly prison rape the same guys over and over. if carlos condit didn't shit the bed so bad, he could have put his money where his mouth is...he was always calling out gsp from what i understand, and now he's back in new mexico so i doubt they'll be fighting anytime soon.
it's funny how stacked 170 seemed until gsp got the title...now it just seems like the middleweight division...one guy, and a bunch of pretenders.
PS - did anyone else hear that gsp is going to try to wrestle in the olympics for canada? this guy is dana white's meal ticket!

I thought Brock was Dana's mealticket? lol
I think Koscheck did improve with his stand up but I am not sure if he is on GSPs level yet. However, having a better stand up will give Kos more confidence so he will not only have to rely on his wrestling and would probably go in to throw down which means he might catch GSP with a wild shot. As I remember GSP won on split decision so it wasn't a very dominating fight.

yeah well look at the split decisions we've been getting lately...all i remember is gsp taking kos down at will and being on top for the entire fight. it was a rape without vaseline. (or was there hahaha jk)
that said, anyone is 1 solid shot away from winning...the problem is, gsp fights like country breakfast now (blanket for 5 rounds) so it's tough to get a good punch in.
gsp has gotten boring as hell...but boring and dominance are pretty much hand in hand in mma...look at grey maynard and nearly every other wrestler in mma.

Either that or Fedor/Silva at a catch weight of say 215...... Fedor could probably even make 205 if he had to.

Anderson Silva is an excellent fighter but I believe in that matchup Fedor would just be too big and powerful. He has knocked out or submitted guys that walk around at 300+lbs.

Actually, it was a unanimous decision and St Pierre took Koschek down at will, dominating the entire fight.

GSP is ina class of his own.
I don't think anyone in his weight class could come close to taking him out, he's just too ****ing good IMHO.:flagC
