What do you want to know?

Well, does it in fact keep a malicous hacker out?Does it keep bored LE people from accessing your surf habits without a warrant? Not that I'm doing anything illegal, but some people might add you to a data base just for being a member here, possibly? And what do you as an admin think of a member known to you using this?Does it create problems for you?

Yes and yes for your first 2 questions IF the vpn is set up correctly. Nothing is fool proof though.
As for being added to a database for being a member here would be a very far stretch. As you said, you are not doing anything illegal right? So they have no reason to do that. If you are doing something illegal, then it would be between you and LE, not the site.

As how I feel about members using a vpn. It's not my concern how you surf the net. My concern is my site and that the rules are followed.

Thanks MP.If I was doing anything illegal on this site I would worry more about you than LE.VPN and encrypting your hard drive seems like a good idea.I have had a hacker enter my machine before and obtain enough info to get a rather detailed financial profile.Seems like a good idea to distance oneself from the herd.Surfsolo is what I had in mind.

Ya, after all that happened, I'd be pretty pissed if anyone was doing stuff here against the rules.

I'm not familiar with surf solo. Windows has improved immensely on being hacked into. Windows 7 is pretty good imo.

Most hacks will come from installing something you shouldn't. Then again, most of what the hackers want is either a keystroke logger installed (which any virus scanner will get triggered) or to use your computer as a drone to attack a server and bring either the firewall down or the server itself.

But yes, a computer that is poorly defended and you have the ip, may be hacked. If you are really worried about that stuff, get a physical firewall between your computer and the net. I picked up a cisco pix firewall at an auction for 50 bucks. Enterprise level :) You'll have to learn a bit, but it's a way cheaper option than going vpn. If money is ok, vpn will do your thing too.
