Another Injury... ****KKKKK. This time in the center of my neck. I am starting to get extremely depressed that I can't seem to train longer than 2-4 months without some sort serious back or neck injury. I am going to have to take time off again to recover.

I have been attempting to lift for a few years and I have seen some progress but this is getting to be too much. These injuries are really starting to affect my life.

What do you guys recommend? The injuries always stem from squats, deads, or overhead presses, and I've had some people take a look at my form and they don't seem to think anything is wrong, but there must be... because the day comes when I'm lifting and rip, some severe pain hits. Should I get a trainer? Move to high volume to avoid injury? Anything else? Anyone else having problems training due to back and neck injuries and how, if ever, did you overcome it?

I should mention that I have been trying to stick to simple routines of compound lifts ala rippetoe, 5 x 5 etc. until I can surpass 200 lbs, and get my main lifts up to a respectable level.

Change up your training in my opinion. If you keep getting injured by training that way, logic would dictate that you will continue getting injured training that way. Maybe use lighter weight for a longer period of time instead of moving up just because you can. It's better to train than to be injured and not train. And before you get back to training make sure you are completely healed. A partially healed injury will more than not cause you future problems and hinder your training again. Also make sure your get enough rest. Maybe a massage now and then could help release the tightness and tension in your muscles.

Age: 23
Gear: nope
Warm-up: Stretches and 2-3 warm up sets before I hit working sets

I think I am going to go with musclefreaks advice for a little while and see how that works out.
As far as the alignment goes, I have had back and neck problems since I was younger, and have seen a chiro quite a bit. He is not really of the opinion that my back is way out of alignment, but he recommends frequent adjustments... what Chiro doesn't?

Thanks for the tips though guys, I think I am just going to heal up, and then gradually work my way up on some slightly higher volume stuff. While it is depressing to have to slow down the strength progress it is far worse to have to stop training.

A good one.

Get a second opinion from another chiro. Preferably one that does ART as well.
