Rented a few movies on Blu-Ray tonight, got home, and none of them will play. Says something to the extent that the format cannot play.
I'm using HP MediaSmart software (it's the program the laptop came with) to try and play the movies that I rented.
Any ideas on how to get around this?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah, if you've just got a regular DVD drive, it won't play blueray

Yes, it definitively has Blu-Ray 100%.
I'm well aware that a standard DVD player isn't capable of playing Blu-Ray.

Ok, so the laptop will play Blu-Ray but NOT when the HDMI cable is plugged in. The minute I plug the cable in I get the same message saying the format is invalid, and the disc information is protected.
Any way to get around that?
Thanks in advance.
Searched for you, and I think the problem is it won't let you play it on two screens at once so you have to make the TV the only output.
FN+F7 supposed to switch that.

What kind of laptop and what kind of TV. Sounds like HDCP compliancy issue if turning of dual monitors doesn't work.. make sure you're only using the HDMI out to TV nothing on screen to avoid copy protection problems

You might have to update the software of the Bluray player.
