When getting test levels checkt by the doc what type of number should i be ok with? Last time i went to the doc he said that the levels range from 16-35 approx. Is this free test he's talking about? At age 35 what is the average test levels or where should they be? I realize everybody is different.

I would bet the farm that this specific test your doctor is speaking of is: Total Testosterone

ya its total.he should be more concerned with bioavailable test, though.

isnt the total test number usually around 500 or so? and when testing for bioavailible test (free andogens) the normal range is 14-97.... having low total test doesnt mean anything is wrong either as ong as your bioavailible test is still in normal ranges.

MMASTAR, I believe the 500 # you refer to is from the US system(ng/dl)-conventional units, we use SI or scientific units(nmol/l).To convert divide SI by 0.0347 to get US.

NBGuy, Looks like your Doc is refering to Total T.Depending on which lab does your test you will get different ranges.

Gamma-Dynacare 8.0-38 nmol/l
Lifelabs 8.4-28.7 nmol/l

You really want to get BioT. This test will cost you out of pocket approx. $60.
BioT lets you know want is available, where as total T most could be bound up with SHBG amung other things.

There is only one lab that tests for this. They are out of Laval, QC. Takes about a month to get results.
They recently changed their lab ranges from 2.5-15.0 to 2.5-18.7nmol/l

Hope this helps
