View Full Version : My 3-4 month journey

Three months ago I was 170lbs, insecure about my body, with relatively low confidence. I let people, especially girls, walk all over me. So then I decided "I need abs, then girls will respect me". As shallow as this sounds, I honestly thought it was true.

I walked into this curious looking gym one day for a body fat test(Low body fat means abs....right?). Long story short, 3 months have passed and I've learned more about strength training and girls than I have in my entire life. I've learned that abs aren't gonna make girls respect me more, and if it did I'd rather not be friends with those sorts of girls anyway. Why couldn't they appreciate me for me before abs?

I had never taken weight training seriously, kinda putzed around not knowing what to do. I would be one of those guys who would hit the gym hard for the first 3 weeks after January, and then just stop going. Then in the middle of the summer I started training at AlladinSane's gym, Remington's. I was given 2 options: I could take the route of the abs, have a crappy diet, have little to no muscle and barely any strength. Or, I could eat whatever I wanted, get HUGE, and then decide if I want to cut back. I chose the latter. Under his guidance these are my strength and weight gains:

May 1st. 165 lbs
June 1st 170 lbs
July 15th 180 lbs - Began training at Remington's
Sept 12th 200 lbs
Nov 5th 210 lbs

For a grand total summer weight gain of 45 lbs.

I went from never deadlifting before, to deadlifting 365. I had never tried a 1 rep max bench before, adding 5 lbs to 135 was a good week for me for reps. Now I can press 225 with relative ease. Tonight I'm shooting for 255-265 with 2 boards.

Most importantly I've gained a higher self-confidence, and some incredible friends. Without the encouragement and direction of AlladdinSane and ShortDave, I would not be here telling my tale! I've gained a new appreciation for strength training and power lifting, and am stoked for a newly developed passion in weight training. I hope this provides some encouragement for anyone trying to gain weight and get strong. I have a long ways to go but I'm working as hard as I can to achieve my goals.

Shit, you have pretty good genes to be benching 225 that fast, good work. You put on weight pretty easy too, you can probably get huge if you stick to it.

Awesome bro, great job!

But what vineyard is that/where!? Looks beautifully planted and growing exceptionally well.. rows seem narrow but for them hybrids it's understandable. Don't happen to be involved in viticulture do you?

It's a vineyard outside Penticton, B.C. I was drinking wine all day so I couldn't tell you which one it is lol. I'm not into viticulture but I brew my own beer haha.

Haha thanks dude but I'd like to think that it was all the hardwork I put into it, rather than genes. I've been busting my ass lol. There are some guys who are just naturally built and I wouldn't consider myself one of those guys.

^^True. I'd have to say mediocre genes at best. I've seen weightlifters every day, all day for the past 10 years (working in gyms and such) and his genetics are not good for lifting or growing.

btw...

I find having nice abs doesn't really get you anywhere with the girls in Canada cause its too damn cold to go shirtless most of the year.

Haha true but in general I meant having to change myself in order to live up to someone else's standards. When I started to make changes I learned I should be making changes for myself, not for anyone else :)

I really think you've got a great attitude and have realized some deep truths concerning reality.

Do this for you not for the result you think it will bring about in someone else.

Awesome work so far...keep it up.

Trimmer works well too.. keeps it clean looking, but you don't have to shave every day and doesn't get nearly as itchy (I'm assuming, never used blades to shave anything other than my face).

1/4" usually does it for me. Neat n tidy.

It's hard to tell from the picture but I have hairy arms too lol. Apparently, its the cat's pajamas to shave everything these days. Maybe I'll shave when I have something to show off and it's summer time. For now, I'll keep warm :)
