I just wanted to drop a line here and see if anyone is interested in having a friend of mine run a q&a on powerlifting and strongman.
Hes a top canadian powerlifter and strongman, a couple weeks out from the world championships.
His resumè includes a 1000 pound squat, 600bench, and 700 pound deadlift, as well as being a seasoned strongman well versed in all the implements.
I wasnèt sure who to ask about this, so I thought Id throw a thread up. Knowing my friend and his love of helping people become stronger I know hed jump at the chance.

Hes definitely interested.
This guys been down at Westside Barbell, is a friend of Louie Simmons, ia about to crack the top 10 of all time squat list and hes really just starting to hit his stride.
On top of that, hes just a cool dude and a good friend.
So seriously, I think it would be a great thing for the board and Canada in general.
Lately weve both been thinking of ways to help grow and improve powerlifting in Canada, and this is something that I think could really help the sport out, and helping guys and gals get stronger is the first step.

Well thanks for the hand Job rhino.
I'm more than excited to help anyone with powerlifting.
I will start a log on here to so everyone can see what I do.
As it was said before I'm off to England to rep Canada and hopefully being Canada back to the forefront.
For PL hear right now I have a metal pro squatter. Inzer predator briefs. Metal all black 2.5 m knee wraps. I use a lever belt. In bench I have a Noc
warrior denim shirt. That is the company the the metal militia guys use. I use the metal all black 80 cm wrist wraps. For deadlifting I use just my pro squatter and a belt. I wear chuck Taylor shoes for all three lifts

Great question.
My first time in the gym was in Jan 07. Couldn't lift two wet socks. Jumped on the bench threw on 135x5 no problem put 185 on and got STAPLED to the bench.
For me it was learning technique. I fell in love quick and read every article Louie wrote, and was learn everything I could. At that time I was getting massive pr's everytime I was at the gym, which in turn made me more addicted. Squat and dead were a little better with about 450ish in both when j started. Oh and I'm about 5'9, and weighed about 220 then, now around 255
I just slowly worked at it, kept learning and got to where I am today. Pretty simple too. Pay attention. Stay consistant and work really ****ing hard. One handy thing Jason Fry told me when I was at westside was, stay as flexible as possible it will help everything
Wow, that's very inspiring.
When you say "stay flexible" do you mean physically or mentally flexible?
That's one of the things I love about powerlifting. Even though everyone is competing against each other, people still are happy when another person gets a new pb, and most people are happy to share their secrets.
Thanks for the response!

I was talking about physically. But that is a great point about mentally. You have to trust your training but not take it as gossple. I know for a fact westside training works. But it may not work for you. I know that the Russian therioes work. Those MFers are strong. It may not work for you. Wendlers 5 3 1 works. That's what I use right now. But it may not be what you trying to do. I know some people (rhino) who try to incorperate everything that anyone tells them, and then their training goes to shit because it's all over the place.
That is the very long version of keep an open mind(both in training and the bedroom haha) what works for one may not work for the other
welcome to the board! i look forward to reading your log and picking your brain!

You went from that to benching 600 in less than 3 years? That's seriously the most impressive thing I've ever heard. I feel like I've been wasting my time for the last 12 years in comparison.

Haha don't forget that is in a 2 ply denim shirt, my raw bench is 405 right now. I spent many hours reading and on YouTube watching the best guys do it. Pick out little things in their technique that I think might work for me and now I am where I am today.
I plan in the next two years the be around 800 and 550 raw in the 242 weight class.
Not all magic, lots of sweat blood and book learnin
