Police across the country are urging parents to inspect all their children's Halloween candy after a razor blade, needle and syringe were discovered in goody bags.

In the Toronto suburb of North York, a family found a razor blade inside a loot bag that was filled with candy, said Sgt. Craig Somers.

He said the boy's parents discovered the razor while they were checking his treats. None of the Halloween candies appeared to have been tampered with, he said.

Similar incidents were reported in the Ontario cities of Cambridge and Whitby, as well as in Nova Scotia.

In Nova Scotia's Annapolis County, a woman told police she found a razor blade hidden in an apple that her child received.

The youngster had been trick-or-treating in Melvern Square in Annapolis County and in Kingston, located in Kings County.

RCMP said they've seized the items and are investigating.

Meanwhile, a two-inch needle was found in a Tootsie Roll in Whitby, Ont., northeast of Toronto. Police there said the needle had been inserted into the candy and was partly visible, adding that the candy wrapper also appeared to have been tampered with.

In Cambridge, Ont., 100 kilometers west of Toronto, a girl found a syringe in her trick-or-treat bag after going through her candy at home, Waterloo Regional Police said.

No one was injured in any of the incidents.

Last year, police in southern Ontario reported five cases of cold medication found in sealed Smarties boxes.

I bet that these people doing things like that are engaged in worse or will be in the future! If you ask me, it should be taken more serious and looked into much more intensely because it may save a life or something in the future.

This happens every year. If you have kids, be VERY careful about checking the candy before they eat it. Nothing that is unwrapped.

The anapolis region in NS is a small one. That guy who handed out apples has a good chance of getting caught. I mean how many people actually hand out apples? I`m sure they will find him by process of ellimination... Then they can stick those razor blades where they really belong...

best way around this,,,is to have your own candy at home and just swap it when your kid gets home...:)

When they are just younglings....best to follow then anyways and watch that they do not eat any of the candy, do the sneak switch when they get home.
