View Full Version : Decline Bench Press
How many of you do it? If not what do you do instead? I have a level 2 separation in my left shoulder (between collar bone and shoulder plate) and I didn't feel anything until I started going heavy on decline. Not it feels like it's going to come apart. The pain is not excruciating but it's annoying.

I'm afraid to do it because I don't have a spotter. I've yet to see a bench at the gym that declines. So they aren't a part of my routine. My bench sucks massive dick too.

I posted the same thread a couple months ago and people adviced me against doing them...
So i canned them... and my chest has been great since.

Hammer Strength has some great chest equipment ( WIDE GRIP PRESS AND INCLINE PRESS)
yes they do...just wish they held more plates.
I never used to do decline before but I figured my lower chest muscle is not getting enough so I started. The reason my shoulder hurts is just from the pressure on the bones and not on the muscle part. No problem what so ever with my right and after the exercise my shoulders are not tired at all. I think I will do the flat bench press with a big arch in my back and see how that works. I am still doing dips so that hits my lower chest a bit and that doesn't bother my shoulder.
declines for powerlifters with good arch ftw! i throw a decline bench into the cage and set the pins so i dont crush my melon. I use this as a max effort exercise and go to a 1rm. always warm up properly and you should have no problems. remember to tuck your elbows and it will take the stress off of your shoulders. ppl that complain of shoulder issues while pressing dont bench properly.....

I love declines and found my chest hurts differently when I do them. If I don't have a spotter I'll go for 8 reps and be safe, if I have a spotter I'll go for 10. But like others have said, everybody is different, if it hurts don't do it.
