level 1 will still have weight classes, level 2 looks like it will be 1 class (as outlined on the website). Level 1 has a lot of entries (ie too many to have just a single class). Should be a decent sized show again this year.

Well folks - only 4 days left till show time....The clock is ticking away. I am in my last day of Carb Depletion, and well I am hitting an all time low. I had to give up my Ticket to see Metallica tonight, because of training, diet, meal preparation etc. Guess I must be one dedicated S.O.B or a complete idiot.

Right now I am leaning towards the latter of the 2. Anyways - 4 Days to go and the hype is just building inside like a volcano ready to blow - Over 100 competitors have pre-registered for this show, and it looks like another Success for the people at Kona Productions - Kudos to them.

Anyways, hope to see a lot of you there - I wanna hear your yelling hooting and hollering us up on stage to get the adrenalin going. Oh, and Nate, don't forget that Pizza buddy -

Peace

add a bit of sugar free maple syrup and some splenda to them.

Oh and mix them with your chicken or whatever your protein source is. I find that helps

How long have you been Judging for?

As an official judge, this will actually be my first. It's something that I've always wanted to do since I started competing.

I've always had a good eye for what judges are looking for...Not that it is always hard to pick a class winner - most times it's actually fairly easy for even the untrained eye. Picking the next 8 in order can sometimes be hard. The typical situation is 1 guy almost has no flaws, he wins hands down, then the next couple are close, and then from there on, you are weighing weaknesses to strengths and that's where it can get really hard.

It's actually easier to judge the nationals then it is to do a level 1 or 2 show. Hopefully we get it right and there aren't too many surprise results.

I didn't mean for that comment to be an attack on judges or that judging nationals is easy. You don't need to agree with me on this, but this is my take on it.

At nationals 95% of the people come in shape their own top shape, and all of the people there have worked there way to get there. But at least you have guidelines to go by to make a good call.

At a level 1 show, you might end up with 8 people in a class where 3rd through 8th place are basically not that great. 1 guy poses horrible, another has the muscle, but is fat, the next guy is shredded but has no muscle...the next guy is overall not bad up top, but 18 inch legs and so on and so forth. So where do you rank all those guys? Even a national level judge will have a hard time ranking non-bodybuilders in a bodybuilding contest.

Obviously this is not always the case - there probably have been many level 1 shows that even my grandma could judge. But hopefully my point comes across.

I say judging 10 guys who are all within 1%-3% difference from each other is harder than judging 10 guys where 7 of them are no where close.

what if those 7 don't belong there, and all basically have no strength, yet all their weeknesses are different? there is no real criteria to separate them. oh well...and for the record, I am talking mostly in figure - which I suppose my argument isn't really justified, since figure nationals is probably harder to judge than anything.

Phats

Was he in heavyweight?

There was one guy, looked really young, was really thick, not conditioned that posed very well.

If that is the guy, he has loads of potential. Wish he woulda came to talk to us after the show - although, he probably knows exactly what we'd say. Actually only 1 bodybuilder came to talk to us after along with about 20 figure girls.

He has awesome shape, poses really well, but conditioning was way off. Hard to say if he had any other weaknesses until you see what's underneath it all. My guess is that he will always hold fat until the end in his back, so if he were to compete again, make sure he has someone assess him all over and not just go with how ripped his legs and abs are in the mirror because he might still not be ready at that point.

Slacking on the pictures ****er!

How is it easier to judge a National show verses a level 1 and 2? Sure some level one and two shows have some quality guys/gals in the line up and some times there are two guys in a class. Unlike the Nationals were classes are larger and have more depth. Sure people show up out of shape, but far less than most lower level shows.

it looked like there were a lot of people who really shouldn't have been up there. It seems every year bodybuilding takes a step closer to swim suit modeling with more and more people getting on stage "just to do it". Oh well, time to accept that's how it is these days.

lighting ****ing sucked as well. Most everyone washed out from an audience view. I hope the judges view was a lot better

Ok, so I seem to be getting shit on quite a bit for my comment. I explained my reasoning behind it. Its not always the case, I am just saying some lower level shows have a lot of competitors with many weaknesses and rather than asking yourself what strengths do I prefer, you're asking what weaknesses are worse. I am sure many judges would agree with me on this one - I treat each comparison equally important, and to get it right between 1st and 2nd is just as important as to get last and 2nd last.

If were talking about the top 3 guys only, then yes, national level shows are much harder to judge. And obviously its harder to judge a big class then a class of 2 guys. and yes, level 1 shows are known for some small classes. But its not always the case. In general yes, overall adding up all classes any level 1 show would be easier to judge than a national show. I am not a fool. I am just saying its easier (ie more objective) to judge a good lineup of 5 guys say, then a lineup of 5 not so good guys/girls.

I am willing to chip in if others are and hire photographers for each show and put the pics up here. Kind of a win/win situation for everyone.

The results from the show are as follows - for me anyways

I took 4th over all in the open class Level 2
Took 1st in my weight class - middleweight allowing me to move up the tier system to the provincials Level 3
Took Best posing award as well

All in all had a good night - Topped it off with Nachos, Bacon Cheeseburger, Fries and a beer....well half a beer, I was too freaking full to finish it lol...I am good now. I have my sights focused on the provincials when ever they are. June or September I think, and I have no idea as to where it is going to be.

Provincals are in June.

Work with someone if you end up going. It's an entirely different ballgame there.

Any suggestions Nate?

I plan on making a splash at provincials dude. I am hoping to at least place as that is all I set out for, anything more than that is cheddar. Know what I mean?

For those of you that couldn't make it out to the show, below is the link to the routine that won me best posing - enjoy and don't hesitate to let me know what you think

Thanks man, I sure appreciate that!

I am hoping to make a bigger impression at Provincials - Perhaps I will take the best posing once again - Just hope I can get the rest of me to par

hey bbuilder, how much did you weigh? I know they only had a couple weight classes since it was a smaller show, but wanted to know if you would be welter or light middle for provincials? If so, I might join you up there!

K - its been 3 weeks since the show, and pictures can't be found anywhere. I have emailed the photographer, and no reply. WTF - do these people not care about the reputation. Its very disheartening that pictures can't be found anywhere, and yet the London's pictures are already available.
Not impressed!!!!!
