I'd rather not bench then bench with form like that. I understand it's part of the game, but it looks disgusting.
lol, i love when guys or girls do a heavy ass bench with about 6 inches ROM. im gonna start doing quarter reps to see what i can actually lift......being tall is a HUGE disadvantage in this lift IMO.

that's a proper way to bench. There is no such thing as a powerlifting bench press and a bodybuilding bench press.
ya BUT when my armspan is over 6ft i have to move the bar MUCH farther than the average lifter, especially the ones under 6ft, ESPECIALLY the ones under 5'8 - 5'9
im just saying if i moved the bar 6-8 inches i could lift way more weight, but i have to move it prolly close to 24 inches if not more every rep

don't be so hard on yourself you just need to train for them. In school I was benching 500 for reps.
When I was dieting I was barely pushing 400 for 6-8 reps. Once you stop training for strength you lose it I find.

I dont know what this video proves.. there are a lot of women who are naturally bigger/stronger than a lot of men.. a lot of guys simply do not have what it takes to bench 300 for reps... let me emphasize the fact that the reason isnt just physical. Like I said in the other thread, some guys are just wimps mentally.

Not one guy benches to full rom at my gym. Its silly. I see guys doing 6" presses, and I see them flattened out with their legs in the air. I see them make pillows out of their sweaters. I see spotters get a back work out in while buddy presses 6". Its ****ed
We could debate all day long, I always leave a 4inch gap between my chest and the bar because I have an 80" reach and I dont want to put my shoulders at an ackward angle. I have benched 370 for 2 reps max, I dont believe in touching your chest its not worth the risk of shoulder injury.

I am sure it is not fine if youre straining shoulders and only doing partials.
But, I suppose I dont really care how you work out, but I do hate to see good guys like yourself get hurt
I do dumbell presses all the way down but with the full bar I have to go with a pretty wide grip if I want to come all the way down. I`m not saying I never go all the way down but usually on heavy sets I leave the gap. I will play with the exercise a bit and see what I can do with the wide grip.

I can picture exactly what your bench looks like... tuck your elbows, your arms should be at 45 deg to your body, you're probably benching at 90 deg and bringing the bar down to high up on your body.
I dont care how long a guys arms are, if your technique is right it wont put your shoulders in an awkward position... if you make a bench grip infront of your stomach and slide it up your chest and keep your thumbs touching your torso, you will notice that at the bottom of your chest your thumbs will stop touching your chest... you shouldnt be trying to bring the bar down to a point above here...
I was benching 300+ lbs for partial ROM a couple years back and i decided to can my close grip, shit ROM and go wide and deep... it took another year just to get my bench back up but now my chest is way bigger and stronger... you NEED full ROM... you might impress a few people in the gym when they see you loading a bar, but if you want to impress the people that count, you have to go wide and full ROM.

Actively decelerating a weight is horrible for your connective tissue. It's like throwing your car into reverse while going 30.

Anyways, Hannah is strong as hell, that was also 2 ply shirted and not really equivalent to a raw bench.
If anyone out there thinks 300 is unattainable for a healthy adult male they should be castrated and banned from working out.

I think essentially you guys might be right...
IF a guy started pressing at 18 and had perfect health to speak of, by 30 all men would likely be pressing 300lbs.
But to say any healthy male could do it is wrong, a lot of 40 year old men could NEVER press 300lbs if they had never lifted before and if they were all natural. Same could be said for 30-something year olds. I started lifting at 21 and it took maybe 2 years to hit a 1RM of 300. But I worked out 4-5 days a week and trained hard. Some people can't train hard, their weak minds wont let them. Couple that with the fact that they're naturally extremely skinny and have weak joints and you've got a good case of someone who will never bench 300 without juice.
We all have brains capable of engineering rockets, but many can't even do long division...
She is so arched that her lift is basicly a decline press.

Any normal healthy male 20-50 has the ability to bench 300lbs without aas...if they want to. read that again...I said if they want to...not if they'd like to....HUGE difference. When you want something youll find a way to achieve it.

My argument is that they lack the focus and determination. They have the physical body but lack the mind for it.

Ability includes physical, mental, and emotional...it is what determines the outcome of the decisions you make. ie one has the ability to get a degree, mba, phd...or bench press 300lbs.
If there are not even close then they are NOT trying to the best of their ablities...they are missing a huge link in the chain.

Agree to disagree... I've met a lot of people who are simply missing a few gears up top, nothing would give them they ability to get their Dr. short of a new brain... the same way people are stupid, i think people are physically stupid.. just picture the goofs from gym class that couldnt kick a ball straight if their live depended on it...
Your logic would suggest that every single guy out their has the ability to train and run for Mr O.. however there is a wide spectrum of people out there.. everyone has a max and its different for everyone, if you could look at a graph that showed the physical limits for every healthy man on the planet there would be guys who couldnt bench 300lbs... a lot of them.

If you are healthy and can procuce muscular tissue then 300 pds is very obtainable. Think about if you only did bench press, like a powerlifter, so your not splitting up your recovery resources. Its easy for your chest to get stronger and grow if that is your only goal.
Whats this logic being attributed to MR. O. Your logic is flawed here, lifting benching 300pds and being Mr. O are very different. Mr. O has tons to do with genetics, its an aethetic contest. you think branch warren could ever have as nice a look as Victor Martinez get real bud

I said bench press 300lbs...this has nothing to do with becoming Mr O...there is a HUGE difference in accomplishing a simple strength feat and becoming the best in the world in a chosen sport. You are missing the entire logic...people are not stupid...yes IQ's may range up or down but the ability to do something ie get a degree has nothing to do with IQ...it has to do with "want" which means if you read a book on finance and dont understand it then you read it again, if you still dont get it , read it again, its simple. The people not able to do things quit too early, dont empower themsleves with knowledge, are close minded and simply do not want it. Yes everyones max may differ...this has nothing to do with benching 300lbs...thats a beginning and an easy one at that. Everyone has a limit at what they can achive physically and mentally however most never even grasp a % of that in their lifetime. Some people may take more time but they can achieve great things...simply saying they are limited is BS. Some of the greatest people ever were told at one time that they didnt have what it takes to make it...ie Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Lenda Murray, Ronnie Coleman, Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Danny Devito, Seabiscuit(horse)...the list is almost endless. According to your logic all of these people/animals would be failures...had they quit when told they didnt have it...Thomas Edison didnt invent the light bulb...in his words he invented 9,999 ways not to invent the light bulb.
You are already setting limits in your own mind and that will severly hamper your progress in anything you do. In the words of Yoda..."do or do not, there is no try!!"

All Im saying is, there is going to be a wide spectrum of max weights for people based on natural ability.... i think for a lot of people 300 would be unattainable... make that number 350 and you can include even more... obviously we can all agree on a weight that most will never achieve, somewhere there will be a number that most will and some wont... for me I'd say 300... regardless... no point in arguing unless we want to set up a reality TV show where we pick people off the street and spend 5 years training them to bench 300lbs...
... and for the record, I bench 300 for reps no problem.. my 1rm is currently 365... shooting for 405... do I think i could EVER bench over 600lbs... no... can others?.. yes.... for me, im pretty sure my 7" wrists would snap.. I doubt I'd ever get to 405 naturally either...

For most people 300lbs is unattainable because they believe it to be unattainable. There hasnt been a single client who I have worked with who hasnt benched 300 clean...and im talking they could barely hit 135lbs initially.
I could barely bench 180lbs in high school...by 21 i hit 405lbs clean...more than double bodyweight...by 27 i hit 600lbs raw. I would say do some reading on EliteFTS and Westside Barbell...great information and you dont have to be a PL to incorporate some ideas into your training. I am not fond of DC training for anyone except advanced lifters....most beginning and intermediate trainees need much more volume because they have developed the focus and intensity necessary for DC to work.

When i reach my goal of 245-250lbs @10%bf i won't think im hot shit like you do and start talking trash to guys smaller then me because a) That's just retarded and b) I would rather construct then deconstruct.
Now going by your avatar i would think your a flaming homo, but then again it's just an avatar so who am i to say:)

P
I'm knocking down pr after pr on dc and seeing real strength gains over all areas. What I'm not seeing with dc is the dramatic weight gain I saw with more volume. I'm hoping the strength gain will parlay into muscle over time but we shall see.
I would not be surprised if a 5x5 was better suited to my current strength level in terms of volume. I'm enjoying the whole beat the log book game and generally happy with the strength results so I'm going to see it through till I stall out or decide that it's not going to put any more meat on my bones.

For the record this thread wasnt meant to try and egg people on to lift more than they are capable, its to prove to people that its the hard work and determination that pays off in the end not the quick fix or "magic", in fact it probably took hannah 10 years to press that much weight, I will add that I was the only poster that mentioned that I benchpress less than her, I guess that means that im the only one here weaker than her? hehe yah right, I know where I stand now but I can also see where I am headed in this game and that makes me look forward to the future.:greet

"My bad" - What the **** does that mean, what kind of expression is that??? :ne
My bad
Meaning
My mistake - I'm to blame.
Origin
This slang term originated in about 1970. At that time, i.e. pre the widespread use of the Internet, slang terms often circulated at street level for many years before being adopted by anyone who felt inclined to write them down. That's clearly not the case any longer of course and any word or phrase that is widely known is dateable quite precisely via website logs.
The first citation in print is C. Wielgus and A. Wolff's, 'Back-in-your-face Guide to Pick-up Basketball', 1986:
"My bad, an expression of contrition uttered after making a bad pass or missing an opponent."
Shakespeare used the term with something like the current meaning, in his Sonnet 112:
Your love and pity doth the impression fill
Which vulgar scandal stamp'd upon my brow;
For what care I who calls me well or ill,
So you o'er-green my bad, my good allow?
That's clearly just coincidence, and it's hardly surprising that such a fragmentary phrase would appear in a large body of work like Shakespeare's. It's also a world away from pick-up basketball, which is an informal street sport where players frequently call out to each other (trash talking), and is a well-known source of street lang.
clueless'My bad' came into widespread popular use in the mid to late-1990s in the USA via the 1995 movie “Clueless”. This starred Alicia Silverstone and contains what seems to have been the first use of the phrase in the mainstream media. The 1994 'Green revision pages' for the movie script has a scene with Alicia Silverstone's character learning to drive:
"Cher swerves - to avoid killing a person on a bicycle. Cher: Whoops, my bad."
Although a street term, it is virtually synonymous with the earlier Latin phrase, 'mea culpa'. It doubtless has as little of a direct descent from this as it does from Shakespeare's Sonnet 112.
'My bad' has gained that unequivocal accolade - imitation. In REM's 2004 song 'Leaving New York' there is this verse, which as you see includes 'my proud':
You might have laughed if I told you
You might have hidden a frown
You might have succeeded in changing me
I might have been turned around
It's easier to leave than to be left behind
Leaving was never my proud
Leaving New York, never easy
I saw the light fading out
The Doonesbury cartoon strip for 14th June 2006 included this:
"Okay, I'm bitter that I have to support myself! There I said it! My brave."

The wider your grip the less distance you have to move the bar, so while wearing a bench shirt it makes it possible to lift more.
The way a bench shirt works is interesting. In some cases you actually have to pull the bar down to touch your chest. Shirted benching is all about the lockout. On the bottom the shirt keeps you from killing yourself. That and 3 spotters.

Just add 10 pounds to your bench every week or every 2 weeks till you get to 300lbs bro. I don't do warm up sets for bench i just start with last weeks max for 4 reps then do a few sets with the extra 10 pounds.
This method has helped me bring my bench up a lot in the last 2 months.
If you start with 2 plates a side and do a few warm up sets you loose a lot of energy or "Push" as some call it, but when you just get in there and lift max first you really end up moving a LOT more weight.
This routine really builds strength and if your diet is up to par then strength builds size.:bch
EDIT: IMHO if your not doing weighted wide grip pullups on back day your bench won't go up as fast.

On either a 5x5 or DC program you will likely raise your "working sets" either 5 pounds per week or 10 pounds every 2 weeks pretty effectively till a fair bit over 300 pounds (assuming you are 200 plus pounds yourself. At 150 body weight 300 is an impressive lift by any measure). This doesn't require aas even as an adult. I ran a 5x5 clean about 6 years ago (mid-30's) and hit my 3 plates a side after about 18 months starting somewhere around 135. (not quite 5 pounds a week, but life and injuries happen).
I have this fantasy the the trip to 2x bodyweight will be as easy but I know it's not going to work out that way.

LOL... well, if you mean a forum-goof, then empirically, yea you are. This is based not on opinion, but fact reflected by our (the board's) exposure to your antics over the past two months (a very short amount of time).
That being said, everyone can have their opinion changed by high-road taking and such.
Of course, most here prolly think I'm a dick that doesn't know dick... so who really cares what I have to say on the matter, LOL!
