I got a ticket for going past a red light 3 months ago but i didnt really go through a red, it was yellow when i just past the line and its a long intersection and i was only going about 50km/hour so by the end of the intersection it turned red and it looked like i passed a red
i checked not guilty on the ticket and have court tommorrow for it, how should i tell the judge what really happened??

Yep.... as long as you dont enter on a red you're fine. If you try to out right lie, you're screwed.. tell the truth and you might be lucky.

Really? I always wondered about that

It has to do with necessity and judgement, if you can stop for yellow you should and you can still be ticketed if you're speeding up and pushing a red. But if you're cruising down the road on a rainy day and you're just approaching "the point of no return" you can just go through. No sense in trying to stop and sliding 3' into the intersection.

There is nothing to wonder...your guilty. I'm not even a cop to have to know that...If the intersection is congested, your to stay at the lights....and Yellow does not mean go....slow down, if anything stop!!

Was is from a cop or a intersection camera ticket.
If it was raining prove that it was and tell judge you were scared that your car might have slide into the intersection. Make sure you tell the judge your posted speed limit and not higher. Also explain that your back wheels were in the intersection before the light went red. Remember on a yellow your supposed stop or proceed with caution, dont say you sped up. Also pray you dont get a woman judge.
Another thing you can say if u have a kid; "I was getting off work and going to pick up my son/daughter/niece/newfew from daycare" The daycare one usually even will get you outta a ticket as soon as the cop asks you were your headed.
Some times you got to you the fallacy of pity.
I had a friend that walked into court wearing dirty clothes, ripped jeans and shoes. The friend told the judge that he cant afford to pay the ticket. Judge asked if monthly payments would be a better option and asked how much he can afford. Friend goes, I can afford 2 dollars a month all my money is going towards school. Jugde said that he is excused on the payment of the ticket but not the points.

It doesnt matter whether or not it turns red while you're in the intersection. I dont think the intersection was backed up... if you went into the intersection and couldnt get through because other cars were blocking the other side, yes, you're at fault but thats not what I got from the OP.
Heres a screenshot from the ICBC drivers manual, lays it out plain and simple. It all depends on what you did when the light turned yellow. If you sped up, you're probably guilty. If you just stayed the same speed and went through, you're probably ok. If the road was wet, you're definately ok.

i agree if the intersection was backed up then it his fault, but if u enter the intersection with your front wheels on a yellow and the the light goes red and then your back wheels enter, you again are at fault.

I see the cops do this all the time, sit there at the light waiting to see if anyone will pull out in the intersection , when they know with the traffic ahead there is no way that person will be able to make that turn on a green. You are not suppose to enter that intersection on a Yellow, knowingly that you will probably be making that turn on a yellow light.

yah cops here were "cracking down" on it, but thats mostly cuz you have 4 people making left turns on the same yellow.
