Montréal, August 7, 2009 – Yesterday morning, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police dismantled an organization specializing in the distribution of counterfeit erectile dysfunction drugs in the Montréal area. Nine suspects were arrested following 11 searches conducted at various locations, including sex shops. These persons could be charged with fraud, conspiracy to commit fraud, infringement of a registered trade-mark and distribution of materials protected by copyright.

The Federal Investigation Section officers used sophisticated investigative techniques to work their way up the distribution chain and purchased several thousands of counterfeit pills as part of their investigation initiated in February, 2008.
Health Canada’s analysis of counterfeit pills recently purchased has confirmed the presence of the active ingredients found in genuine erectile dysfunction drugs. The investigation and the searches conducted in the seizure of more than 15 000 pills similar in size, shape and colour to genuine pills. The alleged offenders illegally distributed pills on a large scale to various places of business, including sex shops, in the Montréal area.
Based on intelligence reports, the police were prompted to look into the illegal sale of prescription drugs as an emerging trend. These drugs can be found on the Internet, and are also sold on the street and in places of business. This new crime trend is not only limited to erectile dysfunction drugs, and recent investigation cases show the counterfeit pharmaceutical market to be fast-growing.
Counterfeit Enforcement
The strategic objective of the Financial Integrity Program with respect to federal law enforcement is to ensure the health and safety of communities, protect the public and maintain Canada’s economic integrity.
Intellectual property crime is mainly related to the illegal counterfeiting and sale of consumer goods or services. This type of crime affects several industry sectors, including pharmaceuticals.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is committed to combating this form of major crime that could have serious consequences on the health and safety of citizens as well as on the Canadian economy.
The RCMP is actively seeking to form partnerships with its federal, provincial and municipal counterparts in the field of law enforcement, with the private sector and with various regulatory agencies. The RCMP continues to be committed in the fight against intellectual property rights violations by providing a direct line of communication between the private and public sectors.

Who cares what they look like, if they're illegal drugs it shouldnt matter what they look like. The fact that they're counterfit shouldnt outweigh the fact that they're being illegally obtained... would they not care if they were molded and colored to look like mini boners? I love how they make a greater issue over the counterfeiting than the illegal distribution of drugs.

Its like if you started selling coke in a "robin hood" flour bag, they'd be more upset about the illegal sale of fake flour than the sale of cocaine.

Good to see how the taxpayers money is being wasted away on these lengthy investigations.... Should be leaning more towards Crack Cocaine and Meth....

Seen a commercial on TV tonight about how roids are just as dangerous as cocaine, meth, weed etc; what a crock of shit, commercial ends by saying, "look out for our children".... HaHa.... what the fuk is this world coming to...

How the times have changed....

LOL....

It keeps the idiots who wont do their own research from taking them... until you dig and realize how they behave its good to think they're evil... it may be based on lies, but it does serve a purpose.

I dunno. I'm genuinely confused by him. I don't know if it's malcontent or idiocy. Why post old ass stories about drug busts when they've been plastered all over both mainstream and underground media sources? Something's fishy.
