Well since injuries ****ed over my contest prep amongst other things I needed something to keep me busy since the gym was/is in limited fashion so I started playing hockey a month ago.

I've been on skates playing the odd pond hockey here and there over the years but my last competitive season was 15 years ago playing Junior B. 15 years and 70lbs ago lol

Still trying to get my skating form, balance and stick handling form back and it's coming.. just slowly. Not much I can do about being 275lbs on skates but whatevs lol Actually, I think most people are pretty impressed when they see how well I move/play for a big guy. The instincts don't die...

Anyway, the point of this thread... they say you always remember your first love and until I started playing again I had forgotten just how much I love playing this sport. NOTHING compares (except football). Now I remember why I used to lie awake at nights before games visualizing how the game would go and how I would play - the moves I'd make, the dekes I'd conjour up or the lead passes I'd make.

For all of you who had something in your past that you absolutely loved to the death of you and would spend hours and hours and hours each day doing/thinking about it... I suggest going back to what made you happy.

Peace :)

Good post. I miss skateboarding. Gotta start up again next summer. Maybe you and Jersey could go on a date ice skating side by side holding each other`s hand... Then go into the move where he shows you how to skate backwards where he puts his hands on your hips to guide standing behind you in a wide stande, where you then both fall on the ground, him on top of you and finally share your first kiss.

Bi is chronic. Think it was ripped or closer to it before I began prep but wasn't in that much pain. Elbow.. acute.

Not sure exactly when each occurred but pain started to mount week by week starting at about 3 weeks in. By the time I called it quits I was barely able to sleep the pain was so unbearable. Had it of been 2-3 weeks out I would have tried to gut through it but I believe I was 9 weeks out at the time.

Anyway...this thread isn't a whiny bitch fest. It's about remembering the things you loved when you were growing up and couldn't imagine ever not doing. If you have/had something like that in your past give it a try. It's amazing how much renewed energy, spirit and passion it can bring to your life doing it again :)

Sorry dude. I started a thread in "Bodybuilder Training" for whiny bitch-festing.

I hear what your saying about hockey , man. Up until last year ( and again this year ) I could care less about putting on skates. Now that my kids are at the age of playing I go out and help coach. I ****ing miss playing , may have to join the " old timers league " .

i miss football so bad. i dream about it sometimes, and when I wake up I am so disappointed I could ****ing cry.
I suppose I could go play in some flag football league or something, but not my cup of tea. I need the contact.
I will live vicariously though my children I guess....

yeah I tried flag after I was done playing. Not the same. Buncha hot dog ****ers who think they were actually good but wouldn't stand up to contact if they were forced to. It's easy to have speed or go over the middle for a pass when you have no fear of getting your head knocked off.

I lived in E-town at the time of when I f**ked both my ACL's and was in a wheelchair for 3 mths, it was soooooo annoying telling the "real" story over and over again every time ppl would ask me if I was an injured Edmonton Eskimo player! But in reality I love football and wished it was an injury from it instead of moto-x :

****ing a

I played some touch last summer with some highschool ball players. It was fun, but it was still missing the best part. its pretty gay when you know a wide receiver would be done for the day after a highspeed impact while he is turned back for a pass, thus causing an incomplete pass, but instead he makes his catch, and you touch him down because you were one step late to knock down the pass or intercept.... different game

I've always wanted to play hockey again. However I would need to buy new pads because they are to small now which is pretty expensive maybe once I am no longer a student in the new year.

yeah it was a bit pricey. I already had new skates which I bought 2 years ago but everything else was brand new. Luckily since it's no contact you don't need the beefiest of upperbody armour like you would need if it was contact so that saves a bit of coin.

All in for equipment and league fees (play in 3 leagues) I forked out about $3000 and that does not include skate sharpening (which I get every game @ $6/pop) and other misc odds and ends needed during the season.

Love it tho!!!

Not so long ago there were outdoor rinks everywhere and a guy could just grab his blades, stick and gloves and hit the ice where usually a little shiiny was going on, Now you have to spend all this coin for ice time and equipment and get your ice time usually at 10:00 at night or something

I play:

Tuesdays 10pm - 11pm
Saturdays: 7:30pm - 10:30pm
Sundays: 1:30pm - 3:30pm

In Ottawa they have lots of public rinks in parks where you can skate but then you are also playing with kids and teens and whatnot and it's not organized. Organized hockey with adults is best and I'm happy to pay for it.

I love my beer league too but being in a small town it's a lot of driving for games. Driving also puts a damper on the beer but I still love it.
