As per Mark Smishek President CBBF Canada the OPA is now the recognized governing body for bodybuilding, figure/fitness etc in Ontario.
CBBF-Ontario division is no longer recognized.

Im not sure of the general consensus however Im also not sure of how many Ontario athletes are privy to the inner workings of either organization (OPA, CBBF-ON) or the real reasons behind the split etc.
There were many legitimate concerns raised by both sides and hopefully through the publicity of what happened these will be dealt with.

I am happy things are resolved but I would have loved to seen the level changes the CBBF Ontario was talking about. Looks like I will need to start at level 1 again next year.

When is it that the athletes get to vote on the leadership? I thought we were paying dues all these years to have some say in our leadership is that not true?

OPA has not had elections for many years now.

It is suppose to happen ever 3 years. I have been a memeber for over 3 years and do not recall any oppertunity to vote since being a member.

ARTICLE 12 - ELECTIONS

12.01: Every three (3) years, at a meeting of the Board of Directors, the election of candidates to positions of President and two (2) Vice-Presidents shall take place. In order to be eligible for candidacy to these positions, a member of the Association must:

Be a duly elected Regional Director.

Have held the position of President, or Vice-President of the Association at any time during the current year of the next preceding three (3) years to the current year.

Be the incumbent President or Vice-President of the Association.

Have no outstanding complaints against him/her or have more then 3 demerit points outstanding.

I think Article 12 implies the Board of Directors voting not members of the OPA.

So basically all of us pay our dues ever year but have no say in how the organization is run. That is worse than the government at lease we get a say in that for all of our tax dollars.

you make it seem as though you are actually a "member" of something. What does it matter? Show up to shows, try to get placed and move on up the ranks.

You need to rejigger your sense of what's up if you think a few bucks a year for membership in OPA comparable to the thousands and thousands of tax dollars paid.

Oh and if you really think you have a say in how our Government is run you are delusional. We do not live in a democracy but feel free to continue to believe otherwise. I also have some land for sale if your interested...

Actually there was a call for nomination for regional director earlier this year in March 2009 to August 2009. I guess there were no new nominations so the election didn't happen.

October 2009

Well, September was an interesting month.

I want to start off by confirming some information. The CBBF Executive Committee has rescinded its recognition of the CBBF Ontario Division and acknowledges that the Ontario Physique Association (OPA) is the sole representative for our sport in the province of Ontario.

We welcome the OPA back into the fold and look forward to working with them in the future in a renewed shared spirit of cooperation for our sport in Ontario.

I also want to confirm information that OPA President Ron Hache posted on the OPA website about the two recent events held in Ontario. Specifically, the top five who competed in the Natural Ontario's in Hamilton September 19/2009 and the top five who competed in the Natural Eastern Canadians in Mississauga, September 26, 2009 all qualify to compete at the Canadian Natural Physique Championships to be held in Laval Quebec in 2010. A complete list of qualified athletes from these two aforementioned competitions will be posted shortly on the CBBF website. These two events were sanctioned by the CBBF to ensure that no Ontario athlete was left behind because of the strife between the CBBF and the OPA.

Both the CBBF and the OPA have acted in the best interests of the athletes and although there was disagreement as to how this should be accomplished, our shared sense of betterment will serve the athletes, our organizations and the sport well as we move on.
