Do u guys use straps for deads or anything else? I big guy at my gym recommended them cuz my grip is giving out on deadlifts long before my body.

Using straps is not a bad idea... just don't abuse them!

Abuse them how? Do you mean not to use them everytime?

Invest in some chalk, it makes a big difference and will help you grip strength. Use straps as a last resort, try to do as many reps as you can without them and then use them.

I use them for deads and seated rows, but I think what Andre means is do some pullups and chins or bent over rows without to slowly buildup your grip strength

Chalk sounds like a good idea. I'd like to build up my grip strength. Do people still call it a raw lift if they use straps?

Lots of guys on these boards recommend em... i dont.. once your grip develops passed a certain point its never a weakness issue at least not for me... just have chalk handy

chalk is awesome BUT not every gym accepts it, straps work great if you really need to use them and like mentioned just don't make a habit of it...yes that means not to use them every single time :)

FOTG doesnt allow chalk but ive been using it for years.. i just keep it in my big duffel bag.. pop the top on my tuperware container rub it on my hands, make sure none of the chalk makes a mess.. gtg! It just takes abit to take the moisture off your hands.. Also just look pissed and vein out all the time and i guarrentee staff wont make a issue about it lol:yeah

I am actually going the other way, I just received my new set of Fat Gripz to make the bar that much more difficult to hold onto.

I will post a review soon

Use them if you want.

I don't , because I feel that if my grip is weak while deadlifting then the only way to make it stronger is to NOT use straps..... I also do farmer walk , static holds and grippers for my grip.

I use them. Prefer the ones with the neoprene padding doesnt cut the shit out of your wrists. I use them on back and traps when i go heavy. I train forearms seperatly so weak grip is not an issue.

you'd most likely say I abuse them... I use them for alot of excercises... but there are two reasons for that
1... my hands are really small and I often can't get a real "grip" on the weights
2... carpaltunnel

oh and my straps are pink!! so they are cute too!

I use wraps for deads, and sometimes heavy rows, and even chins (when i had a hurt wrist). If your not concerned with powerlifting, i would use them. I would rather have a huge back than be able to open a stuck jar of pickles ;)

x2

by not using straps you will be training your grip IE your grip will get better.

you can try to train your grip with Captain's of Crush grippers or pinching plates together and holding them for as long as you can.

I have heard of guys using a chalk ball for rock climbing. keeps the chalk from getting everywhere and you can keep it in your pocket so nobody is the wiser

I use a hooked grip for all the my rowing exercises so I use straps for all them. Deads I only use straps when my grip gives out. Only use straps on back day.
