I bought some beef jerky at cosco. Been snacking on it in between meals or with a shake mixed in oatmeal. I know about the sulfites and it being high in sodium, but was just curious what you guys think about this stuff. I got some 300gram bags at costco for $6 and calculated a bag has 100 grams in it. Not too bad I find, stuff tastes awesome. When I feel like cheating I also may have some beef jerky with a protein bar. Thoughts?

There`s no msg in this one. That`s one thing I wouldn`t put in my body.

SMOKED SALMON:

-Cheap Rye Whiskey
-Madara Brown Sugar
-Course Salt
-your choice of wood chips

1) Fillet Salmon
2) lay 1-layer Salmon, skin down
3) -cover Salmon with layer of sugar
-cover Salmon with light sprinkle of salt
-drizzle Rye on top and cover for 6-8 hrs...check every so often (1hr)
4) put Salmon in smoker on racks (each time chips are replaced (aprox. every hr) baste fish, according to taste)
5) when done eat them mofo's!!!

...forgot to mention to use Alder chips for imo the best tasting smoke :)

If it is the same I get from Costco its fine. How bad can it be? It just a dried up piece of beef with some seasoning. Good protein snack and low fat.

I have yet to find a single beef jerky that doesn't have SUGAR added. I don't want my jerky SWEET dammit!!!

There was a farmer in Peterborough that used to sell all natural beef jerky, peppered. No sugar... it was the best goddamn beef jerky I've ever had. That was like 15 years ago.....

Been searching for something comparable ever since.

Dehydrator's are worth it IMHO. You just gotta have the right recipe. The jerkey and Salmon candy I make tastes much better then store bought and alot cheaper.
