I met with my trainer today... will start back training at ELITE next week... i just have to undergo the weeks worth of pee tests and the medical first... which will be no problem... but to cut to the chase... the main topic of our meeting was meat... and my openness of eating it.

before i started training, i was vegetarian... then i went modified veg (eggs chicken fish and some animal based products) in order to make the gains i would need... fISH (my trainer) feels my gains would be more substancial if i ate beef... so tomorrow is beef day for me. I have not eaten beef in 10 years and am a little scared, but am willing to do it to fuel myself properly!!

How important would you say beef is in a bb diet? how much beef do you eat in a week and above all, how the heck do you even cook that shit?

I think it does make a difference to include beef. Steak is best either stir fried or BBQ. Lean ground beef is great made into a big pot of chili...good for days.

WADEROW!!!! i gagged a little wioth that big meat of yours!! (that might be mistakenly interpreded as sexual... wades meat is so big and juicy it made me gag LOL)

i think im going to go for broke and try a steak. And i think ill go to like a steak place to get it... im kinda nervous! lol

praetorian... he said I did very good without it... but in order to make the gains we talked about (aka winning!!! lol) beef would help... i guess there are things in beef which can not be replicated in a synthetic form... (also an issue with the iron as i kept becomming anemic even with vitamins and iron pills)

just thinking of it as fuel... lol

serious though... go to a steak house if youre a little uneasy. Buy a nice strip loin or something.... Keep it lean, so avoid prime rib (as yummy as it is)

You dont like the pink meat do you? Get it med well to well done... but it will be slightly dry which I hate. I get rare or blue rare myself....

I am told that the farmer's market at bird hill park has a really good grass fed beef rancher selling his wares.
While I am told London Broil is a lean cut it tastes like ass. Sirloin and Tenderloin are my lean cuts of choice.

go to THE KEG or RUTHS CHRIS STEAKHOUSE if you have one near you. If you havnt eaten meat in that long, you gotta go somewhere thats gonna cook it properly.

I would go for a sirloin. Even though you havnt had it in a while dont get it cooked over med well. You will ruin that $40 steak.

If you have not eaten red meat for a decade start with small doses. Maybe a bit of well fried ground beef to start. Well cooked beef will be easier to digest. Your digestive system will need to get used to it again. If you go full on with the beef you will get stomach cramps. Add lots of psyllium into your diet to help things along.

I agree with P...You don't NEED beef, and if you do end up making new gains this year, you certainly could have without the beef! Don't go against your beliefs thinking it is necessary to improve. If you have no issue with eating beef though, its another good source of protein and might make it easier in the sense that you aren't eating the same source of protein all the time.

you dont need it, but it sure does help. especially for mixing things up. i would get pretty sick of eating eggs/chicken/fish only for protein... beef is just so damn tasty (to some of us).

you might want to pick up some digestive enzymes though since it's been so long... otherwise you may experience gas and cramping.

what about ground turkey?

you could mix the ground beef or turkey with pasta sauce.

I love meat, born and raised on it. Steak is definately my favorite.

thanks!... really!... when I added chicken I was pretty much living in the can for a couple days!

mixing beef with turkey is a good idea CC!... if i react poorly to straight up beeef, I'll give the mising a shot... gradually adding more beef... and the digestive enzyme suggestion is great!

I actually don't have a moral issue with eating meat... i went veg to drop weight when I was a fatty!... then just became kinda a habit... tried it a few times and was sick to my tummy, so I decided to just make due without meat...

the general concensus from the guys at work (where do I go for a good steak?) is Keg or this little ranchhouse on main street! ... Ill let ya know how it goes!

Did you say ELITE?... hope it's not the elite i'm familiar with. Aka... starvation diets and 4 hours of cardio per day.

starvation diets plus steak

From an aesthetics perspective I'm not a great fan of the level of "conditioning" that it takes to win a show, men or women. But/And striated glutes and christmas tree lower backs have become part of the vocabulary.

Dryvrgrl
26-09-2009, 02:19 PM
i didn't have a hard time prepping for provincials at all... there was no "starvation" diet... I DID have 2 hours of cardio a day for about 3 weeks... but it was manageable... while you're doing cardio, you're not thinking about eating lol... he just will not stand for the people who cheat on thier diets... if you stick to it, you don't hvae to starve at the end!

It will add some iron but you will still require supplemental iron to keep ferritin levels up. A good product is Ortho-Iron by AOR...doesnt cause constipation and its relativley inexpensive. The main difference is beef contains creatine but not in high enough amounts for performance enhancement. It does have CLA as well...but CLA can also be found in eggs. I doubt very much if it will be the difference in winning or losing...but it is a good idea to have some beef somewhat regularily.

Its shows a lot about ones character when they will step outside of there usual self to achive a goal they want so bad. Congrats on the beef after 10 YEARS!!!If i didnt eat ground beef in ten days i would post a pic im that much of a xlean ground beef lover. I am a shitty cook but i cook a tonne of ground beef, washing it first, then add some mushrooms, onions, garlic. Nobody likes my cooking so i get to eat it all. I like it that way.

You need to up your fats per each meal...try olive oil it is better than loading up on saturated fats. Add it to your shakes, salads etc...you need calories but good ones.

Thanks all!
Im sort of suffering right now... really bad stomach cramps... I got over the "emotional" mental part of eating meat.... which is why I had to jump in with a steak lol... but Im going to go CC's advice and make some meatballs with half beef and half chicken or turkey...

plus I havent been able to eat anything else since 2 oclock when I ate that sandwich and yam fries

Praetorian... Thanks again! I LOVE how you are always willing to share your knowledge with us n00bs! i was supplementing with CLA and flax oil... olive better?

Praetorian
27-09-2009, 09:30 PM
I prefer extra virgin olive oil...flax can be estrogenic, CLA can get expensive and you do get it with meat and eggs.

ok... a little beefy update... I made some meatballs out of beef and chicken (half and half) and have been trying to eat a few every day!... I don't mind the taste, but my tummy has been sore like CRAZY!!... but for real, today I ate 5 and am feeling pretty good!

Beef ain't bad!

Guess the digestive enzymes didn't help much?

I used to get cramping and bad gas when I ate red meat. I stopped eating it for over a year.. slowly introduced it back into my diet and I seemed to take to it ok. I eat it a few times a week now with no problems with digestion.

Good it's clearing up for ya though... it ain't no fun if you're all bloated and gassy after a meal.

Back when my pets were having issues the vet had me put them it.

Nothing is better than a medium rare piece of flesh. I prefer fillet mignon, prime ribs accompanied with bad ass red wine such as Chteau La Mondotte Saint-Emilion .

People that eat their red meat "well done" deserve a good , powerful kick in the balls.

Try eating pineapple with your meat drvygrl...It has bromelain which is a great natural enzyme...Works very well with digestion issues...Give it a whirl...Not the canned juiced sugar stuff, real pineapple chunks work great...
Lamb is ok, but it isnt as good of amino acid profile as beef, plus eating baby sheep....come on.....lol
Like veal, any young animal meat isnt that great for us BBers....
