View Full Version : Anyone prefer straight blade shaves?

I just had one (first time) and I can honestly say it wasnt that good, maybe because it wasnt a traditional straight blade (Ive read that they can cause infection so most places use a disposable straight blade). He had missed spots around my upper lip near the nostrils, but I think I could have done the exact same job at home with my mach 5 or whatever the hell I have for free. Dont get me wrong my cheeks are as smooth as a babies bottom but it should be everywhere thats as smooth as a babies bottom.

Anyone else prefer the straight blade shave (maybe can refer me to a place thats reputable?) As Id like to go again, if I can find a 'better' place.

Mach 5? Hi Joe Millionaire!

I use Gillette disposables. $6 for 12. Lasts me a long time.

Never had a straight razor shave. Don't trust anyone shaving my face.

I had one the morning of my wedding, it was outstanding!! It took like half an hour the guy was an artist. If I won the lottery I might have it done more often. For now I use my gillette fusion

A good one costs 50-60 $$ but you'll save 100's on blades over time

I used to use one as my regular shaving tool, now it is just bathroom decoration because I am waaaay too lazy to go through all that effort every time I shave. It is a very close shave though.

Those are nice blades.. I used to be obsessed with straight razors when I was 13....

I'm scared shitless to use one on my face though. Had it done once by a professional barber... didn't really like it. I was way too nervous.

Straight shaving is a process. Sharpening, stropping, good soap, a good brush, and a gentle touch. I have a set of stones that go up to the 30,000 grit shapton glassStone.

I find it extremely relaxing.

... If you prefer the old double edged blade. Feather makes a lazer cut blade that is purported to be pretty much the sharpest thing possible. I've had a few shave where I think I had a better edge but it's probably just ego.

true that, i just go and get mine done. For as much as I need it done (very little) I just go to a reputable barber shop rather than purchase one.

I don't know just looking at those blades makes me nervous I think I've seen to many mafia movies where one guy always gets the columbian necktie
