So what’s everyone’s opinion of lifting shoes?
I have had my last pair of gym shoes for about 3 years before they fell apart yesterday. So I naturally went last night to pick up a new pair from the same place I purchased the old ones….. WALMART!
So I’m walking out of Walmart with my new pair of gym shoes for $14.95…. and then I think, perhaps I shouldn’t be the cheapest SOB in town and purchase some good quality shoes.
Does it make a different in your opinion?
Was looking at these: http://www.vsathletics.com/product.php?xProd=1917&xSec=16 as an option.

If you`re not doing any serious powerflifting, I don`t think it makes much of a difference. One pair of shoes I wouldn`t wear but doubt you would as they`re expensive are the nike shox for squats, deadlifts or lunges, stuff like that. The shoes in the link you provided at least look good unlike those goofy looking powerlifting shoes you see the guys who are really into in wear. But hey it`s not a fashion parade...
But walmart dude, seriously you could get a nice pair of sneakers on sale for about $60

I bought a pair of those and returned them. Very uncomfortable. But powerlifters swear by them. They look good if you wear shorts, but in pants they look odd (another reason why I returned them)

HaHa. I know, I know. what do you expect from someone who was raised by two accountatns :o
I know a decent pair of shoes will run $60 or more, that’s why I was thinking if was going to spend that much anyways, maybe for another $20 or so ill get something designed for lifting.

Nope, BB.
That being said, I still do the fundamentals, Squats, Deads etcetera..
Its not like I’m just doing step ups in the women’s area ;)

Chucks work great and they're not too expensive.

I was just listening to a show on super human radio and the guest was saying chucks are a no go. They lack arch support, a slightly elevated heel and a strap the support the top part of your foot (the metasomething...)
Now don`t give me shit for saying this. I`m merely repeating what I just heard from a strengh expert.

Little off topic but interesting none the less...
I watched a special on proper footwear and what offers the absolute best support and what is the most healthiest for your feet. The show had all the leading specialists/surgeons in the world and all they all said that the human foot is designed to walk, run, etc. barefoot with nothing on it.
Obviously, going barefoot to the gym or anywhere isn't very practical, but it was a very interesting show and definitely not what I expected.

Why would you wear pants? Shorts show off the calves, all sexy and junk.
I recently went shoe shopping and everything nowadays seems to be about absorbing impact, which in turn is going to absorb a lot of the energy you are putting into a squat or a DL.

My calves stink. They`ve never gotten bigger than 16.5 inches. My legs are pretty good, so the imbalance is bad. But at least most guys have bad calves. I swear, I used to to everything for calves, even implemented incline on max level cardio...
This winter I just said **** it and stopped training them and they (hold onto your shorts here) broke the 16 inch barier... If I personally knew a guy who`s done synthol hundreds of times, a guy like Derick Anthony I`d go for that or one day just get implants.

My expierience has been as long as it's tight its good for lifting. Although I do get shin splints so I think I might need some better ones for the treatmill.

A good pair of shoes are definitely better than 10ml's of test.

Agreed on the chucks for deadlifting even better is a deadlift slipper. Save 1/2".
Ever since the gym rats stole my sneakers I just wear my blue suede shoes to the gym instead of swapping shoes while working out.
Second that... powerfirm is the way to go!

Newbalanc i like alot. 90% of them are a bit hard to look at though lol.
I got a GREAT pair for 150$ alot of support.
got one with agrafit (spelling) plate on the heel around the ankle for support and an insert for EXTRA arch support. these i use for work and walkign because I stand alot and am always on my feet.
lifting i go bare foot or socks.

They are decent shoes. Like any other runners. I got them half off.

I find these pretty good, i used to wear runners but once my lifts went up they were crap. Most adidas kicks are pretty flat bottomed, shit for running, good for lifting shoes IMO.

Or if you want some cool looking flat soled shoes, just get some skater shoes.
