I recently came out of my basement and started working out at the Y.
Over all it's better than my basement but only by a little.
Are there any gyms in winnipeg with real squat racks, dumbbells over 100 pounds and maybe god forbid a lifting platform?
What gyms are worth checking out?

which Y are you at? Kimberly Y has decent equipment in the basement.
I train right now at the Fort Rouge Leisure center, check it out... I like it... will be back at elite 3 X a week soon though

I've been at st. vital y. It's nice and clean since the reno.
I'll check out Fort Rouge.
I drove out and looked at Good Life this evening. big yuck.
Similar to the Fort Rouge Ctr, the Chief Peguis Fitness Ctr on Rothesay has all that you need and cheap city gym prices if price is a concern for you.
U won't find many commercial gyms with lifting platforms as many public gyms don't allow O-lifts as they are deemed "too dangerous"... haha... hell, I overhead squat during my warm up! I wouldn't last in a public gym anymore... private facility is the way to go for me... the competition nevers see until its too late!

My basement has a platform and about 500 pounds of bumpers but the roof is too damn low. I have to drag everything out to the garage if I want to have fun.
That's why I train in a private training facilty in a warehouse space with 24' ceilings. Costs a lot more than training in a public gym but the training environment and the coaching is second to none... definitely something you don't get training alone.
Shapes. Just don't grunt or drop the weights.

Check out Centennial Pool in St. James , its not bad...but Winnipeg has lost some of its best gyms over the past five years so it is tough... am not a big fan of Shapes but to each there own.

cindy klassen isnt bad either... but its all new and you have to battle 2 million phillipino old men to get on any equipment... luckily they stay on the "equipment" side and not the weight side... I go there about once a week... check out all the city facuilities actually! they are cheap like borscht

I had a quick look at Fort Rouge this afternoon. I met an evil midget woman barring the door. Nice squat rack, dumbbells to 130. Bit of a stinky dungeon. The st. vital Y has it beat with the hammerstrength machines, cleanliness and services but dumbbells only go to 100 and the half rack doesn't adjust worth a darn (bad design). I can definitely see doing drop in leg days @ fort rouge but it would get old quick.
I used to work out at the assiniboine health club when I lived downtown, many moons ago and didn't know how good I had it.
a) I thought that all women could squat more than me ( ms. odiatu and a couple of others worked out there)
b) I assumed that people who went to gyms were there to work out.
c) Hygiene was expected
d) If you worked in a gym you actually knew something about strength training.
I was a naive youth.
@ $5.00 for drop-in at the city facilities I can see myself wandering around and checking out a few.

The next 6 weeks could be ugly then. I'm switching from npp to tren and upping my test dose dramatically. Maybe I should go to shapes.
